  • Aussie election

Well guys no one has noticed but the Aussie federal election is upon us .

Not only for the house of reps and thus the prime minister but also the entire senate .
On the one side Turnbull who downplays his wealth and does not use the billionaire word , his conservatives hold government and want to keep it . Their play seem to be to be to traditional big L Liberal ideology .
On the other former union leader Shorten and his play to the small end of town .
From the crossbenches a host of independents, Greens etc . The Palmer united party seems to have imploded it's leader Clive "I am so a billionaire "Palmer having business issues as well as political . His similarities to Trump amuse some . The Greens continue to play a strong hand with a left wing social ideology .

Day 1 of the official election campaign and Turbull visits the most marginal seat held for the libs by the hard working Luke Howarth. I know Luke, solid , honest small business owner .
He holds the seat on a knife edge .
The leader of the other half of Turbulls coalition government Barnaby Joyce says he will take to the wombat track to shore up support in the country .
The polls all say it's 51% to 49% but the disagree on who has the 51%, so finely poised .

Interestingly neither major party leader is that popular with Shorten particularly unpopular for no particular reason . When thinking of Shorten I keep thinking of a boxer who is coping a hiding but keeps throwing leather .

I imagined it as an announcer who is getting progressively more drunk as he drinks a can of fosters.

Seriously though, the yanks over here are in need of good examples of governance as we have clearly lost our way. Don't let us down

Did anyone give up Friday night footie to watch the debate? And why do you think Shorten won the debate, at least in the eyes of the punters who asked the questions?

There is a long long way to go yet...

Apparently very few bothered to watch, but those who did thought Shorten won it . There is some summary stuff on the net .

Labour is pushing it's education agenda . The Libs are pushing the small business tax cut , it says that should stimulate the economy . However many economists are not so sure .

Morgan Poll out today has ALP in winning position. There has been a significant and (for polls) quite rapid shift from 50/50 to 54/46. Sampling error may account for this, but the move is remarkable. Greens up to 16%, which probably arises from strong support for them among the 18-24 kids.

While all parties are talking of an increase to refugee intake the greens proposed large increase has people talking . There is some discussion on the cost of getting them up to speed to function in Australia . The libs spokesman claims many are illiterate in their own language and in general require a lot of help and support to get up to speed.

The campaign becomes more bizarre as it drags on. Everyone knows the eight weeks was decided on for legal and Constitutional reasons (which I could explain in detail if anyone cared). But increasingly bizarre events have been topped this last few days with a raid by the Feds on a senior shadow minister on behalf of the NBN Co. Govt saying I know muffin but will this pass the pub test? Most likely explanation is that the cops, exercising their own (extremely poor) judgement, acted on their own, thus causing huge embarrassment the the Govt (because no one will believe they are innocent) AND the Oppn (because they did get the papers unlawfully).

We are in for six more weeks of this and at least one laugh a week can be expected.

Keeping in mind that the govt owns NBN co it is hard to believe they were completely hands off.

The" criminal" the fedral police (think fbi) are trying to find is a whistleblower on cost overruns and mismanagement .

Curious Peg, your OP says the billionaire has his Conservatives holding Congres but they will play to Liberals? Not sure if I was understanding that correctly.
                            Start 3.16.15 - 7bpel, 6bpel, 5meg

                            Current 1.19.16 - 7.85bpel, 6.6nbpel, 5.3meg

                            Goal 1.19.17 - 8.5bpel, 7.5nbpel, 5.75meg

The Liberals and the National (former Country) party make up a coalition that is the conservative side of politics in Aussie . Turnbull is rich but not a billionaire . In aussie it is parliament not congress . Smaller parties and Independents make up the balance of Power in the Senate . One of the smaller parties was headed by Clive Palmer who at the time was a billionaire . He has some similarities to Trump . He has disappointed his supporters and looks like exiting politics , has some business issues also.
