Years ago I went into a doctors office and asked to get my thyroid checked out. The doctor appeared to not take me seriously and ultimately (indirectly) stated that I needed to eat more. He stated the blood test didn't show anything wrong. I just took his word for it and left it as is. Maybe I should actually go to a specialist of some kind. Maybe I just need to go to the gym =\

BMR - (From MyFitnessPal website)
What is your BMR?
Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is an estimate of how many calories you'd burn if you were to do nothing but rest for 24 hours. It represents the minimum amount of energy needed to keep your body functioning, including breathing and keeping your heart beating.
Your BMR does not include the calories you burn from normal daily activities or exercise.
Our calculator uses the Mifflin-St. Jeor equations to estimate your BMR which is believed to be more accurate than the more commonly used Harris-Benedict equation.
Given my age, weight, height, sex,
my BMR calculates/estimated as 1,645 calories/day
Another site estimates - (BMR 1658)
Activity level- sedentary, I need 1990 calories to maintain current weight
- lightly active, I need 2155 calories to maintain " "
- moderately active, I need 2321 calories to maintain " "
- very active, I need 2487 calories to maintain current weight.
What is a pound of weight, in calories ? Mr Google states:
Because 3,500 calories equals about 1 pound (0.45 kilogram) of fat, you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in to lose 1 pound. So, in general, if you cut 500 calories from your typical diet each day, you'd lose about 1 pound a week (500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories).
Not certain what happens for those who have 'irregularities of sorts' in their body functions.
A little math, oh what fun eh ?

Years ago when I was on an intentional diet I would count calories. I was on a 500 cal diet and tried to limit those to only protein so my body didn’t consume my own muscle. My diet daily usually consisted of half a glass of no fat milk for breakfast, salad with no fat dressing. Hidden Valley used to make a fat free Parmesan Italian dressing which was the key to my success back then, it was great. Got down to 175, 3% body fat and cut muscular frame. I was carrying two batteries to our boat at the boat slips. My muscles were popping and i had a bronze tan. The bar there had one way glass windows, I heard one waitress comment to another, “He’s Hot.” The other replied, “Yeah, but her knows it.” I turned around to see who the hell they were talking about, LOL.
Currently I’ve gone from 223 lbs to 170 in about two years. Lost 53 lbs, a lot of that was muscle mass though due to my low T. I can actually see my losses now in the mirror. Kinda think weight loss is like PE gains your minds eye doesn’t see it. And ya don’t believe it when someone tell you you look thin or your wife tells you you have a big dick, IDK. This current weight loss I can’t really explain except I have a loss of appetite. Also could be testosterone replacement related as my metabolism has increased. This 170 body looks a lot different than my 175 body 25 years ago. Not cut, lots of extra skin hanging off me, still 20% body fat so another 20 lbs to go. I need to dust the weights off and get busy. Just a toning work out not looking for mass.A prayer, is kinda the same as a "Like". If there are enough likes, God will take notice. So "Like" away please. My daughter needs your prayers. Thank You.

If your goal is either weight loss or weight management, weight loss/management has less to do with calorie-counting than it does with controlling sugar and insulin levels. Foods that ultimately end up as glucose (i.e., carbs) stimulate an insulin response, which is the REAL cause of weight gain. Insulin is the fat-storage hormone--get the insulin under control, and you get the weight under control (I'm anecdotal). Instead of counting calories, count your macros--Carb/Fat/Protein.Originally posted by Dangler View PostSo, I am controlling my intake to a daily calorie max of 1500.
Meals, breakfasts, snacks, lunches, dinners, are all pre-purchased, to help me lose some weight, whilst keeping suitable nutritional needs met.
Anyone else counting their calories ?
Calorie-restrictive diets never work in the long term because your body will simply down-regulate hormone production and metabolism. A much more practical long-term modality is LCHF.

I am a faithful believer in the insulin-theory in weight loss, too. But I believe one could similarly lose weight just as well by staying off of fats, and primarily eating a high-carb and fructose diet, consisting of easily digestible fruits, berries and vegetables. Such foods will increase one's insulin, but if there's very little fat in one's diet, the body doesn't have an easy route to storing fat, and will burn the calories one eats instead of storing them. That's my belief, anyhow. However, whether HighFatLowCarb or HighCarbLowFat is the best way to go, in regards of both weight loss and health, depends on other factors, like climate, life style and intestinal flora.Originally posted by Nubie999 View PostIf your goal is either weight loss or weight management, weight loss/management has less to do with calorie-counting than it does with controlling sugar and insulin levels. . Don't fall for the heart-fat hypothesis put forth by Ancel Keyes. Fat is good; fat (especially saturated fat) will save your life. Believe it.
You've said a ton in your short response, and I could go on, and on. The key though, is to increase your insulin sensitivity, and force insulin to do what it's designed to do, i.e., to clear serum glucose from your blood stream. Fact: highly-glycogenic diets force your pancreas to continue to produce endless amounts of insulin--non-stop. The only possible outcome from this is insulin resistance (IR is the REAL culprit underlying almost every chronic condition in modern cultures, not dietary fat). Do an internet, or youtube search for Dr Jason Fung (among others).
I've been full-on keto for 3 years, and consume very little carb. The experience is ama-a-a-zing, and I cannot advocate for it strongly enough.
It's more consistent with the way mankind evolved.
