  • Caloric Surplus/Deficits

I'm wondering what your guys experiencing are when it comes to gaining based on your caloric consumption.

Have you gained size on a calorie deficit?
    Y/N

Your best gains were on a calorie deficit or surplus?
    Deficit/Surplus

What was your build during the time of these gains?
    Underweight/Average/Overweight

    Other diet considerations?
Did you take any supplements? Do you consume a lot of protein?

I'm assuming anyone who answers these questions has a routine that they have adhered to.

The consensus is that you can't gain lean mass on a caloric deficit. You usually have to eat more to gain mass whilst limiting fat gain and then do a cut cycle to burn the fat. I was going to the gym for 7 years and never gained size on a deficit. You may look more ripped tho which may appear like you've gained.

My absolutely best results was when I were on the juice. I ate like a pig but I was ripped as fuck and was lifting heavy. Strangely I looked ripped in the gym but not so ripped at home haha When not using steroids, my best gains were about a year after I started lifting and I was taking a mass gainer by Sci-MX. I was looking really beefy and my skin was glowing.

Started underweight, spent most of my time during training at average but I did get overweight for a while when I was eating a lot and ate a lot of peanut butter which gave me crazy weightgain.

I took steroids probably for about 6 months out of the 7 years. Had loads of supplements - pre-workout, nitric oxide, test boosters, whey protein, mass gainers, etc. I would aim for 1g protein per pound of bodyweight.

I'm not at the gym at the moment as I'm swamped with uni assignments but a few more weeks and I'll be back to it going to burn fat first and then start a lean gains plan.
    Start: BPEL - 7.008", MEG - 5.197"
    Current: BPEL - 7.126", MEG - 5.118"

    Goal: BPEL - 9", MEG - 6.5"

I have eaten a lot of calories without gaining weight when I was training hard . There is obviously a flaw in the argument that so many calories equals so much weight gain .

I have lost fat and gained muscle at the same time while coming off a long training break which some say is impossible lol.

I have never really done any significant calorie deficit but i should imagine it would hurt muscle gain. I have spent a lot of time trying to put myself into calorie surplus but frankly it seemed irrelevant to muscle gain.

I probably should have been a bit more specific - I was actually referring to penis gains.

Gaining on a caloric deficit is unlikely unless for example, you lose muscle in legs and gain it in arms. I've been in a deep caloric deficit and the only thing I'm gaining is definition.

Your best gains can only be on a caloric surplus because you are storing more calories than you burn.
My gains went from underweight to normal, to over weight. I went from 172lbs to 230, but all of my lifts increased ~100lbs, so it was worth it.

Supplements arent necessary because in a caloric surplus you'll have just about everything you need. Staples whether in a deficit or surplus would be fish oil, creatine, and a multivitamin. If you are cutting, protein powder and bcaas won't hurt.
