  • New experimental drink

After reading about the benefits of green tea, honey and broccoli I have decided to test an idea. I am going to brew my own version by combining all the ingredients.

    My recipe:

    Ingredients:
    1 broccoli flowerhead (stems removed)
    2 green tea bags
    honey (to flavour)

    Method:
    Boil broccoli till soft.
    Strain mixture.
Add green tea bags and simmer liquid for 5 minutes over low heat.
    Alow to cool down.
    Remove tea bags.
    Chill in refrigerator.
Drink as iced tea and flavour with honey to taste.

Lets see if this combined effect helps with healing and EQ.
Ideas and suggestions will be welcome.

Adding some lemon and ginger might not be a bad idea. Also, a lot of the nutrients in broccoli are lost when you boil it. It would be better to buy it frozen and let it thaw to room temperature (it will be slightly soft from the ice in the bag). Good luck!

It might be better if you could just blend it completely raw if you're going for the nutritional effect...

I don't know, but I feel so much healthier when I eat right, and when I eat badly I feel sick... so I think if I focus on those feelings, it does help a bit. That's always what I'm thinking when I take my flax seed omega blend oil straight...

Anyhow, if I could stomach the stuff, I might try a concoction like this sometime....

Yeah I agree. There's nothing bad about putting a bunch of raw veggies in a juicer (carrots, beets, ginger, broccoli, kale, lemon etc.) and chugging it down. You gotta add stuff to make it sweet though (like beets and carrots), otherwise the stuff can be BITTER!!!

The benefit of the liquid form too is you could just chug it down, then 'chase it' with something sweet.

E.g., Have a drink on the side ready to clean your palate after you down the concoction.

Would love to ....but I will have to invest in a blender. Eating it raw will just be as good I suppose...

True CUSP82. Do I remember my mom's fail safe remedy for all illnesses - castor oil... Urghhh

My tea tasted very good. I did not boil it but infused it for 20 minutes over very low heat. The broccoli is 'al dente' and I will use it in my garlic and cheese baked broccoli dish - delicous! I added ginger, cardomom, cinamon and lemon juice and flavoured it with honey.

I agree that the natural, blended version will have more nutrients. Will try it some time.

Anyhow, has anyone tried South African Rooibos (redbush tea). It has an interesting taste and is used in South Africa as a soothing tea for babies with colic and stomach cramps. It works well and a South African company developed health care and body care products with indigenous ingredients like marula, rooibos and hoodia.

Just found the following article on the net.

Article: The benefits of Rooibos Tea
                        (Source: Teabenefits Website)

"Rooibos tea, like green and black tea, has been found to be rich in anti-oxidants and flavonoids. In fact, Rooibos tea has been found to have as much as 50 times more SOD than Green Tea. It also has other anti-oxidants not found in other teas.
The effect of free radicals (a by-product of normal cell function) in the process of aging and declining of the immune system is limited by the anti-oxidants in Rooibos tea.

Rooibos tea is completely pure and natural, as it contains no additives, preservatives or colorants. It is a soothing drink for people on a calorie-restricted diet, without adding kilojoules.

Rooibos tea is also strongly recommended for people suffering from irritability, headaches, disturbed sleeping patterns, insomnia, nervous tension, mild depression or hypertension. Rooibos tea contains no caffeine and therefore has a soothing effect on the central nervous system. Rooibos tea is also low in tannin and therefore does not have a negative effect on the absorption of iron and proteins into the body.
Rooibos tea has anti-spasmodic properties, thus relieving stomach cramps and colic in infants. Rooibos tea also relieves stomach and indigestive problems like nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach ulcers and constipation

Furthermore, rooibos tea also supplements the daily amounts of
calcium, manganese and especially fluoride, needed for the development of strong teeth and bones. It contains zinc and alpha-hydroxy acid, which promotes healthy skin and magnesium which is necessary for a healthy nervous system.

Rooibos tea has a soothing effect on the skin, relieving itching and certain skin irritations like eczema, nappy rash and acne when directly applied to the affected area.

Rooibos tea is an all day drink which can be used as a pick-me-up in the morning, a superb thirst-quencher during the day and at night it helps you to relax and sleep well."

Reading this article reminds me of my use of rooibos tea treatment for sun burn. I infuse rooibos for 10 minutes in lukewarm water and sponge the sunburnt areas with the tea and leaving it to dry.
