  • Triclocarban increases genital size

Triclocarban a antibacterial which is used in some soaps increased the size of the penis
In male rats. Here is the study

Triclocarban Enhances Testosterone Action: A New Type of Endocrine Disruptor?

Many xenobiotics have been associated with endocrine effects in a wide range of biological systems. These associations are usually between small nonsteroid molecules and steroid receptor signaling systems. In this report, triclocarban (TCC; 3,4,4′-trichlorocarbanilide), a common ingredient in personal care products that is used as an antimicrobial agent was evaluated and found to represent a new category of endocrine-disrupting substance. A cell-based androgen receptor-mediated bioassay was used to demonstrate that TCC and other urea compounds with a similar structure, which have little or no endocrine activity when tested alone, act to enhance testosterone (T)-induced androgen receptor-mediated transcriptional activity in vitro. This amplification effect of TCC was also apparent in vivo when 0.25% TCC was added to the diet of castrated male rats that were supported by exogenous testosterone treatment for 10 d. All male sex accessory organs increased significantly in size after the T+TCC treatment, compared with T or TCC treatments alone. The data presented here suggest that the bioactivity of endogenous hormones may be amplified by exposure to commercial personal care products containing sufficient levels of TCC.

Damnit Bongo, now I have to go hunting for acne cleansers that contain triclocarban....and possibly eat the stuff.

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum.

This grabbed my attention. Now I guess they'll have to test this out on humans.

Just finished googling "triclocarban penis testosterone" and there is a lot of info. Kinda scary and informative.

Triclocarban has been used as an antimicrobial, antibacterial ingredient in many common soaps for decades. You probably have it in your home right now.

Lots of testing has been done on this chemical both in vivo and in vitro. There is a fair bit of controversy with its use in common products.

Question, is the penis considered a 'accessory' organ?

Now we need to question all males with bad acne as to what meds there using and how big is the weiner.

What the studies have shown is that the oral consumption of triclocarban in very small amounts has substantially increased the size of testosterone dependent male sexual accessory organs, especially the prostate.

Triclocarban is related to triclosan, which is a commonly prescribed acne remedy.

One of the strongest off the shelf soaps containing triclocarban as the active ingredient (1.5% w/w) is Cuticura.

Very interesting!! I wonder if it is possible to get the chemical alone to make a transdermal version of it.

I'll be asking that question at my local pharmacy today...while shopping for Cuticura products (they make an ointment as well).

anything that messes with the endoctrin system is a bit scary though...could cause thyroid problems, etc...

After much searching the shelves of all the drugstores, I only found two products that contain triclocarban. Both are antibacterial deoderant bar soaps. I bought a 4 bar pack of Safeguard Antibacterial hand soap, active ingrediant is triclocarban.

Asked the pharmacist about triclocarban and he was'nt aware of any prescription useage, neither topical or oral.

I did see a Chinese supplier of pure triclocarban online.

According to the web, there is over 500, 000lbs of triclocarban used in the USA manufacturing industry per year. I would think with that amount we should at least be able to get our hands on an '8-ball' of the stuff.

                      Don't give up yet bro.

According to Proctor and Gamble there is 1.356 grams of triclocarban in a 113 gram bar of Safeguard soap. So at the quoted online price of $350.00/0.05 grams that would equal a cost of $9492.00 worth of triclocarban in one bar....WTF...and I sure as fuck did not pay no $37 968.00 for four bars of soap. I paid $4.00 for a four pack, $1.00/bar.

And if Proctor and Gamble are paying that much and selling it for less than $1.00 per bar wholesale then somebody surely needs to be fired...LOL

Any chem students here that know how to seperate the triclocarban back out of the solution...in the kitchen?

I read on wiki it was only one study that stated and increase in hormonal effects with TCC, all the other studies showed hormonal activity getting blocked or decreased.
Also they didn't mention it increasing genitals, but more if increasing of the prostate by alot. We might not want enlarged prostates.
Also saw briefly a thing trying to have the FDA ban TCC and something else. Saying it's unsafe.

I read that as well Jama.

here is the link to the study that claim ALL sexual accessory organ weights were increase substantially and significantly in 10 days on rats fed 0.25% w/w triclocarban in their food. These results come from the castrated rat group that was administered testosterone propionate and triclocarban.

So let's say the rats were fed 5 grams of food per day. 0.25 w/w% triclocarban amount in 5 grams would equal 1.25 grams of triclocarban ingested daily for 10 days in a rat.

I have'nt figured out the g/kg ration for rats or humans...yet.

All I know is I'm going to have to eat alot of bars of Safeguard soap...J/K

                            Caveat...math ain't my strongest point
