  • Does smoking contribute towards ED and possibly shrink your dick? The answer...

...Could be yes. I found this on PubMed: Effects of smoking on plasma testosterone level an... [J Sex Med. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI. Unfortunately it's just the abstract, not the full paper but it suggests that in rats at least, regular smoking decreases testosterone levels, smooth muscle and sinusoidal space. The filling rate and pressure of the corpora cavernosum are also reduced.

Whether this has an analogous effect in humans is debatable, but I'll be using it as inspiration in my fight to quit. Hope it helps others who are trying to find the will, as well.

Could be? There's no could be, it's 100% confirmed that smoking contributes to various forms of ED, and has been for quite some time.

Sure, but I've never seen a published scientific article that relates to the reduction in smooth muscle before. The 'could be' was referring to the actual shrinkage. There's a lot of information around that people are 100% certain of but I've seen very few references to published, peer reviewed studies. Not talking about this forum in particular, just generally on forums around the web.

If the fact about the potential smooth muscle reduction was previously well known, apologies. I'd not seen it referenced before.

It's down to the microcirculation that is basically destroyed by smoking which can result in cell death throughout the body.

I dont think clinical evidence is required on this one, just logic and common sense.

Yeah. No specific studies have been done on cell death/shrinkage in the penis, but have been on internal organs. Same tissue, same concept.

Cell death isn't the biggest worry in the side effects of smoking though. Killing your vascular system is a far bigger worry.
