  • Benefits of Cold Showers.(Experimental)

    Got this from a Big gainer at MOS. (About 2 inches in 2-3 Months-)
    Take a cold shower covering entire body for 5 minutes.
    Cold showers or ice baths after training allows all the lactic acid and blood that has been built up trained areas to be flushed out and be replaced with fresh oxygenated blood which expediates healing and circulation (I take only cold showers and I dont smoke or take in any caffiene and its like im on viagra 24/7, 110% at the drop of a hat, girls LOVE it!)

    I hate cold showers...

    Let me know if this works, hate cold showers. Sounds unpleasant just thinking about it.

        This sounds like torture! Ice baths?? No way!

          I've been reading about this elsewhere. Seems like cold water has a lot of benefit.

          I don't like cold showers either but probably you get used to it.

            Health pros have been using Contrast Baths for sometime, especially in sports medicine. Alternating Hot and Cold Therapy has many benefits, one of which is "Faster Healing". The contrast of hot-cold creates a pumping of the blood in and out of the body part. The blood vessels dilate in the heat and constrict in the cold. Any stagnating swelling is reduced as it is pumped out of the body part. Inflammation is reduced as fresh blood and healing agents are pumped into the injured area. Pain is also reduced, as both hot and cold have anesthetic effects. This allows for a faster dumping of metabolic wastes and a faster delivery of fresh blood with healing nutrients, theoretically speeding up healing time.

              An ice cold wrap would be an easier alternative. I just find when I do these I turtle a lot.
              Starting (21.03.09): 5.3" x 4.3"

              Currently: 6.0" x 4.3"

              Goal: 7.0" x 5.5"

                  I hate cold showers so much, but the benefits definitely seem to make sense. Not sure I can do it, though!

                    Well I just got out of my first cold shower. I've often made the tempature lukewarm and occasionally cold for a few seconds but tonight I just blasted myself with cold water after first warming up and soaping off with my normal warm water.

                    The little I read on the topic suggested I should stay under until I feel warm again which is probably around 5 minutes. Well I almost got there before I had to get out. Made my pecker and balls shrivel up tight.

                    I'll keep it up and see how it goes.

                        I know the benefits of a cold bath or shower, but just so everyone is safe I'd like to say this.

                        Do NOT take a cold shower or bath if you have flu or anything like flu. This could make you sicker.

                        Just be careful guys.

                          How does a cold shower when you're sick make you sicker? The stress of the cold water shocks your system this much?

                          I've heard if you have a very high fever a cool/cold bath can be used to reduce it.

                            Actually thinking of this, this theory would support the "cool down" school of thought. I know there has been a lot of discussion around the benefits of cool or warm downs and whether or not they work. Personally speaking, I don't warm or cool down, however I might cool down for the next few months and see if it works.

                            I wonder what the difference is between cooling down the groin area only and taking a cold shower?
                            Don't focus on the destination but enjoy the journey!

                              Seems like we are talking about "cold down" here - not just cool down. I think there are two schools of thought. One calls for more warmth to keep the blood flowing, the other calls of shutting everything down with "the big chill." I'm eager to hear what guys experience. Me, I'm sticking with the warm down out of shear comfort considerations.
