The length and circumference of the model that each woman believed best represented the “average” penis size is presented in Figs 3 and 4 shows every woman’s selection of the “smallest” and “largest” sexual partner with whom she had contact.http://journals.plos.org/plosone/art...e.0133079.t001

Anyone make any sense of this extracted from a recent study.

The understanding of average is so off in some responses you suspect they are having a lend of the researchers.

I can not understand the smallest and largest graphic anyone make sense of what it is saying ?

I would be interested to know if there are gibberish results similar to some in the average size graph.

I thinks the smallest to largest is two points per person. This is the smallest and this is the largest with a line drawn between the two points. Kind of a silly graph as it really doesn't tell much other than show that woman see all sizes. Kink of like men see all sizes of breasts - meaningless graph.

Very interesting study!! Lots of good info here!
            Thanks for sharing it.

One thing which really caught my eye was the fact that when asked what size each participant would prefer for a one night stand and a longer term relationship, the numbers were very nearly the same, and very nearly the commonly quoted U.S. average size:

"...such that participants preferred a slightly larger penis size in one-time (length = 6.4 inches or 16.3 cm, circumference = 5.0 inches or 12.7 cm) partners as compared to long-term partners (length = 6.3 inches or 16.0 cm, circumference = 4.8 inches or 12.2 cm)."

Sounds interesting but looking at it one time I couldn't make sense of what I was seeing lol.
Ill have to take a second look later and reverse engineer it.

don't understand a word of that. so what is the average size penis according to women? 5''? 7''?

To obtain an "average" from this study, one would have to take all of the plot points from Fig 3, change them to two numbers (one for L and one for G), add them all, and divide by the number of plot points (75).

Much easier just to do this, IMHO:

To rid oneself of the extremes, take the plot points at the extreme top and bottom of Fig 3, so that the plot point for 8"L x 5.5"G and 5"L x 3.25"G are gone; now also take the plot points at the extreme L and R of Fig 3 out of the equation, so that the 2 plot points at 4"L x 3.5"G and the 3 plot points at approximately 6"L x 6"G are also out of the equation.

Doing so, one is losing 7 out of 75 plot points, or only about 9.3% of the total. This leaves the 'meat' of the plot points and study participants in a nearly circular cluster between approximately 5.5"L x 3.5"G; 4.5"L x 4.5"G; 7.5"L x 4.5"G; and, 6.5"L x 5.5"G.

Those plot points would result in an approximate average of 6"L x 4.5"G , which is consistent with many previously published studies/results for an "average" penis L and G.

                    Also consider the fact that the 3 largest clusters of plot points center around approximately 5"L x 4"G ; 6"L x 4.5"G ; and, 5.5"L x 5"G

It made no sense to me, I hate stats and figures, but fossilhead your working out shows what the average seems to be wherever you look, 5.5 - 6.5 L x 4 - 5 G. But who cares about averages, either be happy with yours or go grow yourself a monster.

Actually I find the outliers very interesting in that 9.3% of women are way way off and many others are not that near either.
For instance in the not so near group is a little cluster of half a dozen odd that thinks average is 5,5" by 3.5" girth . Wtf 3.5 " girth average ? Also 4.5" length average ? Also 7.5" length average ? Now remember these are not part of the 9.3% that were way way out.

Ahhhhh 27% identified a "queer", lesbian or asexual and nearly 15% did not identify .
Which means not much more than half identified as either straight or bi sexual.

Does it strike anyone that this may not have been a typical group?

What does "queer" even mean in the modern context?

I think what they meant is that they had women choose the smalllest and largest of the models given from their experience, and around the point where the lines intersect near the middle of the x axis represents an average.
