Ever find a pump that you want to use, maybe it's the right size for your PE project, maybe you
just like the color. Problem with it is that it doesn’t have a pressure gauge. Well here’s a step by
step mod walk through on how to add one in.
What you will need:
Penis pump you want to use
Ruler/measuring tape
Box cutter or other sharp smooth edge cutting tool
Vacuum Test kit
Smooth surface
Where to get a vacuum test kit from?
Your local auto parts and tools store. I picked up one (CP7803 Vacuum & Pressure Tester Kit) from
Canadian Tire for about $30. Dial is a bit larger then I wanted, but I opted for Mechanical over digital.
In the kit there should also be a T fitting, tapered hose adapter, universal adapter and some hose {LINK to pic}.
When cutting the hose, measure twice, cut once slow and smooth. Don’t forget to measure both sets of barbs your attaching to.
Step one: lay it out
Find out where the hose will and won’t detach from the pump {LINK to pic}, if you can't turn it with little force, it's not coming off without breaking it. Once you know which end the hose can come off on {LINK to pic},think about where you want the gauge, top of the pump, middle of the line or at the bulb.
Step two: build your gauge assembly
With the way I did it, I put the gauge at the top of my pump. Gives a bit of a handle and its right in front of you, you won’t forget to look at it. I attached the universal adapter to a 1 1/2" hose to the T fitting, another 1 1/2" hose to the vacuum gauge. And the reminder to the last part of the T {LINK to pic}. On the end of the long hose I attached the tapered adapter {LINK to pic}
Step three: attaching assembly to pump
Universal adaptor went over the barbs on the tube, tapered went perfectly into the end of the hose going to the bulb pump. {LINK to pic}
Step four: TEST IT {LINK to pic}
DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT TEST IT ON YOURSELF RIGHT AWAY. Take your new pump /w gauge and set it up on a surface that will get a seal. I opted to test it on a sheet of plastic at 7 HG (2 more than is safe for myself) and I left it alone for 30 min (technical the max safe limit for people). If you come back and it's still right on 7 where you left it, your awesome go get yourself a cookie or play with some muffins. After go to step five, if it went down you have a leak, I’ll add notes below on trying to troubleshoot leaks
Step 5: enjoy {LINK to pic}
As it says, enjoy. Being the main parts were form a test kit you should be able to remove your gauge later for your next pump down the road, good luck with your PE.
Troubleshooting leaks.
Remove 1 part at a time and see when he leak stops, start with the tube. Detach at the top just use your thumb to cover the hole on the adaptor and try to hold at 2 or 3 hg. If it still leaks just work your way up slowly, could be one of the hoses are too short, or they got cut with the knife earlier. Is the release valve loose? Lots of maybes, but take your time. If the issue was gone after removing the tube, you may just have a poor seal to the surface you used.
