I've used a vacuum pump for a long time (off and on since around 1996/97) and have done it right and, unfortunately, wrong over time so I feel very experienced with it generally as well as for safety. Fortunately never hurt myself permanently from the time I was over zealous, and have permanently increased the size of my dick with it.
I started using a 1.75" cylinder that just goes over the cock for awhile. Used it off and on over time. Went off it for awhile, then would come back to it from time to time. Then, went off of it for years. About 3 or 4 years ago, came back to it, bought a 1.75" cylinder and started using it again. Did so with regularity, but did not adhere strictly to the work out routines they provide you with in terms of how often you should do it. Stopped after awhile. Decided to go back to it about a year ago and, to my amazement, found that my dick had truly increased in size. I couldn't get the 1.75" cylinder all the way down to my base when it was hard. Here's some advice about pumping...
Definitely you need a gauge and a pump system that is not one of those cheap ones that is really only used for fooling around with during sex play, etc. One of those is how I temporarily caused myself EQ injury and needed to completely stop everything, including masturbating, for six and a half weeks to fully heal, with regular heat wraps everyday - the works for proper healing...very bad! So it goes without saying, don't do that! Anyway, the size range for a 2" cylinder that just goes over the cock is between 5.1 to 5.5" in girth at your largest point. I'm very close to needing to go up to the next size cylinder (the 2.25 inch in diameter). The standard cylinders are aournd 9.5 inches long or so. Anyone who is registering a bone-pressed erect length of 8 or 8.5 inches or higher should think about buying a pump that is 12" long. Two reasons: 1) your cock will be reaching the top very quickly; 2) if your girth is "plastering" you against the sides of the cylinder, you need a larger size (you need a quarter inch more than your erect girth measurement at the largest point) in order to adequately get the proper suction and pull to stretch and thicken the cock. If you get the system that I've been using, they are anatomically built, with a slight taper near the end to reduce any unwanted swelling under the head after pumping. All this being said, I'd definitely call the company's phone number and they can walk you through your measurements and let you know exactly which cylinder you should be buying. That is another important point, buy from a company that has a dedicated call-in number for help with finding the right routine, the right cylinders, etc.
The best way to increase your cock size and EQ with a pump is to follow some basic rules: 1) always warm up before for at least 10 minutes; 2) use plenty of water based lube on your cock and balls and surrounding area; 3) shave your hair so it doesn't interfere with getting an adequate suction level; 4) only use a petroleum based lube, if needed, around the base of the cylinder if you are losing suction; 5) follow the directions they give you and don't try to push things (you'll likely be tempted to because it feels so good and looks really cool), but you can hurt yourself; and, 6) make sure, when using the cylinder that goes over just your cock, that your dick is as hard as it can possibly be before you put the pump over it and begin pumping. I'm not 100% sure why I've been lucky and have achieved results with it, as I have not been as dedicated as I should. I think doing it right after trial and error and with decent regularity more recently over time is what allowed me to gain. It is very time consuming. I have found that PE is much more "doable" thus far in relation to amount of time it takes to do the exercises. That is why I'm here and want to go with PE instead of pumping at this point. I'll probably still pump from time to time, but switch to regular PE workouts instead. I know this is a lot to read, but I hope this is helpful?!
