  • Hanging and pumping in the same routine?

    Hi!

A short background: I'd dabbled with PE before but a year ago I started doing it regularly. I did the JP90 for four months and gained nothing. Then I added some Ulis, squeezes, pumping and edging to the routine. Still nothing. I kept going with that nevertheless. All I seemed to gain was fluid retention if I did too much jelqing and/or pumping. I sometimes took a break from all training, up to a couple of weeks, just to make sure I was not overtraining. I never got any injuries such as bruising or spots. Maybe I was in fact undertraining?

I've ordered a smaller diameter pump cylinder (the current one is about six inches around the inner wall, whereas I'm only five in girth) and made a sock hanger today.

Due to experiencing no gains from manual work so far and hangers as well as pumps giving me free hands to do something else on the side, I'm interested in using these two tools in my next routine.

I have however come across some comments here that hanging and pumping should not be combined? Should I periodize them (eg. a couple of months of hanging followed by a couple of months of pumping etc.) or would doing them on separate days throughout the week be sufficient? I've seen some people like BigO do both in the same session as well...? What's the deal here?

My plan would be to start working very slowly from a just maybe five or ten minutes a day of hanging towards an hour at the end of the year. Same goes for pumping; even though I've done sessions of up to an hour in the pump and used pressure levels of five and beyond with no apparent problems (other than lack of gains and lymph build-up), I'm planning to start over with 5-10 minutes at 3hg and start building towards 3x20min or something similar by the end of year.

    Any advice, gentlemen?

It's not that they can't or shouldn't be done together. Using a compression hanger and pumping is very difficult. The edema from pumping makes it very hard to anchor a compression hanger, and it becomes very painful as well. Of course, most won't realize these issues until you're up in a decent amount of weight while hanging.

Vacuum hangers work much better in conjunction with pumping. The LG particularly is very well suited for it.

I assume this would only be a problem if one were to do pumping before hanging, right? Or should the pumping effects (edema) last until the next day if the session was effective?

Honestly if your hanging correctly adding a pump is just too much. Gain the length you want at first and then focuse on girth.

Hanging is intense if done correctly especially when your reaching the fatigue and riding fatigue also. I personally will be hanging in future with a BIB hanger until I reach my desired length.

Only after that I will focuse on girth with clamping.
