  • Vitamins and supplementation. My assessment of what works well.

    I am new here but I felt that a summary of my supplement usage and why I use them could be helpful.
    First of all, I am becoming more involved in physical training, coaching and exercise physiology and what I am using helps both in general health and penis health.
    If you're not generally healthy, your penile health will suffer. Plus, many supplements aid with blood flow to the penis.
    I'm sure a lot of this has been covered before but hopefully you may find it useful.

    I am 48, still fairly athletic and have no major health issues and no ED problems. I was a smoker up until 2 years ago and after quitting, I packed on about 45 pounds. I’ve lost a big chunk of that and am involved in weight training again and started PE around early August of this year.

    General supplements I take daily.
    Vitamin-D
    I cannot stress how important this vitamin is. And we are almost all chronically deficient on this. In the winter I take at least 4000 I.U. of vitamin-D and in the summer at least 2000 I.U. You can’t overdose on vitamin-D and it makes a huge difference in health.

    * Vitamin-C Important anti-oxidant 500 mg daily
    * Fish oil (krill oil is even better) at least200 mg of DHA and 120 mg of EPA per capsule daily
    * CoQ-10(Co-enzyme Q-10) Related to the energy release in the body and an essential heart supplement 100 mg daily
    * A good general multi-vitamin

    “Male Enhancement Related” supplements I take daily
    * Horny goat weed- 500 mg daily
    * L-Carnitine- 500 mg daily
    * Tribulus Terrestris- 300-500 mg daily
    * Ashwagandha- 750-1000 mg daily
    * Maca- 1000-1300 mg daily
    * Saw Palmetto- less than 600 mg daily
    * Yohimbe Bark- no more than 400-500 mg daily- can cause anxiety, heart palpitations.
    * Avena Sativa- 500-600 mg per day.
    * Tongkat Ali- 1500-3000 mg per day.

    Now don’t get me wrong; by “male Enhancement supplements” I am not suggesting that these make your penis larger. They do, however, increase blood flow to the penis and can improve erection quality.
    Be warned, however, that Yohimbe bark supplements can affect some people adversely so start low with dosage to check your tolerance and build up slowly.

    Here is a link to WebMD on Yohimbe.
    YOHIMBE: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings - WebMD

    The other biggie on the list is the Tongkat Ali. I take about 1600 mg of this a day and it is very effective. It can boost general mood, increase penile blood flow and is also reportedly capable of spurring a natural increase in testosterone production. I can’t quantify this scientifically in regards to my personal use but it does seem to increase my feelings of competitiveness and aggression (not in a bad, violent way but more in a “youthful” way) and does seem to increase my energy and mood-all signs of testosterone boost.

    The above mix of supplements is my daily regime and I can definitely attest to that combination, which took me about 6 months to work out, has improved my EQ, mood and energy.
    I am almost 49 years old and while I do not suffer from erectile dysfunctions, the quality of my erections has decreased over the last few years---not unusual considering my age.
    However, if I take these supplements within 30 minutes of waking up, my morning erection is tremendous and as hard as it would be using an ED med such as Viagra.
    I also walk around in a state of slight semi-erection most of the day-nothing embarrassing; I can just feel that I am slightly engorged.
    This, I’m certain, is how companies selling male enhancement pills initially fool their customers into believing they have experienced penis growth…they walk around with semi-stiffies and experience full erections-possibly for the first time in years. This makes them feel “bigger” though they are just experiencing erection like they did when they were teens.

    This supplementation works for me and it could probably work for you too. My goal was improving health and first, penile health second.
    If you are overweight, eat a diet high in sugars and saturated fats and don’t exercise and take care of yourself, all the supplementation and PE in the world won’t help.
    The dosages above (with the exception of the vitamin-D which I recommend to EVERYBODY) are what work for me. You can experiment with different supplements and dosages to see what works for you.

    I hope this has been helpful.

    Hey, great post. I'm bookmarking this for catching up later. I am definitely going to start looking for the supplements you recommended. Thanks!

        Not really. I buy in slightly larger quantities and find the best deals on Amazon and it all works out to about $30.00 per month...about 1/6 what smoking used to cost me. Not a bad trade I think

          Ha! Yeah, people who've never smoked don't have that as a frame of reference. I quit over 10 years ago now. A friend had me pick up a pack for them on my way to her house, and I almost didn't have enough on me to pay for them. And they weren't really a "prime" name brand. Glad I gave that up.

            Out of curiosity, how do you know which ones work and which ones don't? I'm after buying some supplements(waiting for them to arrive) but I'm thinking if we take several different types at once then we won't really know which are a waste of money or which are beneficial. You're taking a lot and they all add up pricewise.
            Start : BPEL 6.4" x MEG 4.75"
            Latest : BPEL 7.0" x MEG 5.00"

            Short Term Goal : BPEL 7.5" x MEG 5.25"
            Long Term Goal : BPEL 8" x MEG 6"

              I think the best way to work that out would be to do a trial run for each supplement, and take that one supplement, no others, for a period of 1-2 weeks (at least) and see if there are any improvements that you notice, if so, note it down, and move on to the next drug (you can wait a few days (or a week) until you feel your body is clean of the previous supp). Do this for each supplement and take note of what you think is working.

              It may take a while, but if you are concerned about price, etc, this is probably the best way to go about it. (IMO)

                  I take a lot of the same stuff and more, can't over-recommend iherb.com that site is SO affordable and they always get it to me in 2 days which is absolutely insane.
                  I just wanted to mention that if you're taking a lot of vitamin D you need to make sure you're getting enough vitamin A.
                  Not in beta-carotene form either.
                  Most foods that list vitamin a only contain the precursors to it (but they're allowed to list it as vitamin a on the box) and many people can't make real vitamin a properly or efficiently (had read somewhere that it was something like %75 at best conversion). The only real sources of full vitamin a are from meat so if you eat veggies only this can be an issue.
                  Most fish oils contain vitamin a (some more than others) since liver is one of the biggest sources of it.
                  Anyways ya just make sure if you're supplementing the D to get the A cause you need both and d depletes A especially at high doses.
                  Also interesting and almost related is that seeds (like flax) that list containing omega-3s also only contain precursors and not the actual Omega-3 which your body can make if the co-factors are bio-available . This means if you don't have everything necessary to convert it you get nothing from it. Flax contains only ALA and no EPA or DHA on its own. The only full omega3 sources currently are animal. So lame that they let them list it like that and that people aren't taught about nutrition in school.

                  ANYWAY ya sorry to rant a bit there.

                    I've been wondering how to increase the volume ... Awesome.

                    God I love this website.

                        Too much yohimbe is said to cause heath issues. It use to be a main ingredient in blood circulation pills (male enhancement pills) but most have removed it because of health issues. Google it - there's plenty of info out there on this.

                              I would just suggest that you cycle these herbs as to not develop a tolerance or negative side effects I think 2 weeks on, one week off is a good rule of thumb for most herbs. Also I'd suggest taking L arginine (an amino acid which is found in protein. Arginine is used to make nitric oxide in the body and creates a big NO2 pump; great for fatter erections and weightlifting) as well as ginko biloba. Ginko biloba DOES NOT need to be cycled. It increases blood flow to your whole body, including your penis and brain, adds to your overall health, improves your memory and even helps prevent alzheimer's disease due to increased oxegen in the brain. I'd suggest ginko to anyone who is not doing pe even due to it's amazing positive healrth benefits.
