I used to be a big advocate for flax seeds over rice (because they hold head longer) but on two occasions, the flax sock began to smolder in the microwave and sent smoke smell throughout the house. I guess the flax seeds dry out and become flammable over time. I now go with a rice sock and like it just fine.

The sock itself was cotton. I was using golden flax seed and I had probably heated it 25-30 times before it started to smolder. I was using a 3-minute express warm up in the microwave. Maybe that was too intense. The sock itself was smoldering and developed holes in it. Fortunately, I was near an open window and I emptied the contents and ran water on the sock to stop the process. It was a bit scary!

I just tried a flax sock and I like it over rice. Seems to hold heat maybe double the time of rice and more comfy! I was nuking my rice for 30 secs at a time but I'm thinking around 40 secs is good for flax (not 3 mins haha no wonder it burnt up!)
          CONSISTENCY!
