  • Supplements for Anxiety and Stress

    Hello All,
First off I would like thank everyone for taking the time to read my posts and comment. My original post was moved to the relationship forum for more exposure. Anyway, my counselor recommend 5-HTP and l-Theanine for my anxiety and stress. I have not tried the Theanine as of yet but the 5-HTP seems to be working for me. If anybody else is suffering from stress and anxiety and PE is adding to the mix, this may help. Also, plenty of B vitamins and regular exercise.
    Peace Brothers
    Thanks again

5-htp is good at treating anxiety, but remember, you have to ask yourself first what is making your brain behave that way to begin with. Most probably the answer is stress. Try to diminish stress, erase it if possible and find the ways to deal with it in the most efficient way. Now how to prepare your brain to confront stress? Something that is ESSENTIAL for your brain health is good quality fats. Up to 75% of your brain is made of cholesterol and ALL the nervous system is made from cholesterol. The body needs it to produce your sex hormones and to keep a healthy neurotransmitter balance.

I work in a really stressful field and I tended to dwell on negative aspects of work and life in general. Picked this up from my father. Counseling, meditation and being conscious of my actions all seem to be working for me. Also...trying to not make such a monster out of this other guy in my GF's life. I am NOT happy he is in her life at all but I have to realize that her actions towards me speak volumes! I really try to eat right. All of my fats come from plant sources, clean eating, limited processed foods, limited alcohol and lots of breathing!

I'm sorry to hear that. Kava is another supplement considered to be good for dealing with anxiety.

Oxymoron's come in all shapes and sizes I guess. I don't know about the low carb, but I love a homemade margarita pizza with fresh marinara sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil.

I would replace fats from plant source to animal sources. Cook with real pure lard, or real organic butter, drink organic whole milk, eat organic eggs with the yolk. Avoid alcohol and processed foods. Also avoid gluten, it will really shorten your lifespan. Any possibility of switching jobs?

I'm a vegetarian but I do eat butter and eggs. I limit alcohol and drugs. Switching jobs? I started this job 2 years ago. It is a lot less stressful as a health care jobs go. I think meditation, counseling and the new amino acid supplements are helping a lot. AND breathing and being honest with my GF.
                            Thanks Jack

                              Love me some Kava.

Also, OP, 5-HTP might be alright in the short-term, but please note, that rapidly increasing Serotonin concentrations can lead to changes in gut function..most prominently diarrhea and such..it's great if you have constipation, though!

Also, 5-HTP; being a direct serotonin precursor, can lead to serotonin-related side-effects - particularly at higher dosages..like apathy, decreased libido, decreased pleasure , paradoxical increase in anxiety, and memory / cognition issues...

As Jackxxx said, you have to find the cause of the Anxiety and work on mental challenges to take control of the situation and these include stress-relief techniques like meditation and thought practices/thoughtfulness... you could also just get out and go for a walk or bike ride!

W/e helps you get through it... on another note...

                              - Magnesium
                              - L-Lysine

These two nutrients are deficient and a large portion of almost every anxiety disorder and Stress-related repercussion out there...get em!
