Thought I would just post on how I meaure accurately...every time.
What I use is a clear plastic dinner knife (the kind you would get at a picnic). It is exactly 8 inches long, my NBPEL goal. It is thin, see through, easy to use, and will always be exactly 8 inches long. When erect, I lay the knife on the top of my penis and put a scratch on the knife exactly where my penis ends. The next time I measure I know EXACTLY where my last length was, and whether I have gained or not. It is so simple and extremely accurate. My knife now has 4 or 5 scratches on it documenting my growth!!
I started out using a clear ruler but the thin knife handle is a whole lot more comfortable to push into your pubic bone if you use BP measurements, and since it has no numbers/dashes on it my scratches (exact progress) are easy to see.
The only problem is what to do after 8"s?!! Maybe I will just keep using the same knife and not caring that my penis is longer than it, just looking back at all the scratches should make me giddy. Hope this helps some who have a hard time measuring......
Good luck!
