  • One-itis

I recently read a dating advice article that was partially about this topic. It has really stuck with me and thought that it might be a good conversation piece as I bet many of us have experienced, are experiencing, or know someone that is/has been going through One-itis or more commonly known as "The One".

I am pretty sure we all know what "The One" means. This means that you, or whoever, is so enthralled with one particular person that they are incapable of letting that person go in their mind that they are the only one that could potentially make them happy in some future relationship that they continue to dream about. Now this could easily be because there was something there, perhaps a relationship at one point in time or just some constant light flirting, or one thinks that there might be.

Is it really as unhealthy as the article makes it out to be? Can't something be said for one's persistence in trying to keep that hope alive?

    I believe it's called stalking.

You can always let the 'one' go...some just take longer than others. I've been in that situation a few times in life, and given enough time, you do move on and they don't matter anymore.

Given enough time there will be Many of the ONES!

I let my first true love go and married another.

Let her go too and now I been happily married to my Bride for 15+ years.

That said, you never do truly forget them...granted you don't think about them day to day, but you do when topics like these are brought up.

Or take the good with the bad and continue to make it work with the ONE. I am doing my best with this choice.

There are many The Ones. As time goes on is when one realizes that.
The hardest thing sometimes is to let go of the want in your mind.

What if the one is one? Or rather oneself, then you already have it! But letting go of this isn't a bad idea either!!!

Having been on the receiving end of obsessive "persistence" - yes, stalking is accurate.

Some do take it far, but having One-itis doesn't necessarily mean you are following someone around and watching them cook chicken from a tree. I am talking about those ones that are not mentally off kilter.

I guess another question would be what makes One-itis so bad? What would you say to that person that would, hopefully, break them out of it, or even possibly keep thinking that way?

                              one itis= PUA bullshit.

It's very simple, you like one, and:
a- she likes you back and she's available= you won, go for it
b- she does not like you back or likes you back but she's not available= bad luck, go to the next one

And the cure for getting a woman out of your head, if you're at point b, is.... yes, a new, different woman .
