  • Posts marked as read keeps resetting by itself

About every hour now the forums seem to wipe the "What's New?" tab, my subscribed threads list under "My Account", and the entire forum showing no new posts any more. This is something that has been happening for the past two or three days since the website was upgraded to a new server. It's making it completely impossible to follow threads that are subscribed to now since one can go to sleep and overnight have everything reset a few times. It's even happening over times where I have not closed or refreshed my web browser.

Clearly this has cut down on my postings a lot as there's now no way to actually see new posts as frequently any more.

In case anyone asks, yes, my cache settings are fine. No I am not having a problem with any other website I visit. The problem is only occurring here and not on any other forums.

Perfect example of this is right now. I go off to make some dinner, come back and hit the "What's New?" tab again and everything that was on there before, including this thread, is now gone and the newest stuff is only from 15 minutes AFTER I posted this thread.

    What gives?

Any idea what this is Control? It's quite strange.

Any ideas? This is getting really annoying having all new threads/posts stop showing after 30-60 minutes.

Come on, nothing? If it wasn't for me having book marked this page I wouldn't even be able to find it and see if it's been updated. Why the delay on an answer?

                    DemOne,

In order to speed the forums I set up caching which saves a lot of system resources but it looks like it have caused some issues. I have tweaked some of the settings to see if it will fix the issues but if not I will have to turn it off and find another option to speed the forum up. My question is have you guys noticed it running faster the last couple of days or has it done nothing but cause problems?

                      It has definitely been faster

It seems odd but the post refresh thing that this thread talks about, and the mobile site glitch (instead of desktop) haven't affected me, I haven't encountered any of these problems

                      Could it be browser related?

To be honest, I can't say I've noticed a difference in speed, mostly because I'm not sure if I've experienced the issues of the site being slow that other users have. Probably down to the times of the day I'm on the site compared to others who are on during the day time.

The cache purging definitely seemed to be quite quick...like every 30 minutes quick which I've found to be quite strange since it completely resets searches, the What's New tab, and your subscribed threads list in your user CP.

Easiest way that I've found to speed up forums without messing with the cache settings, is to put a limit on how many times you can post/create a thread. Just like there's limits on sending private messages and reporting posts, put a limit up so one can only post or make a new thread every 30, 45, or 60 seconds, which ever you feel is best for the forum. That will cut down dramatically on people who would rather post 5 posts in a row, seconds apart, instead of posting it in one post or using the edit button to add in what they wanted.

Turning the sidebar off could also help a bunch, unless people use and like that feature too much to turn it off.

Still seems to be resetting way too fast to me.
