I watched a programme last night looking into (heterosexual) women paying for sex. It looked at a few examples in the UK and the US as well as 'sex tourism' by women in Jamaica. It mentioned that male escorting in the US is a much more slick and professional operation compared to the UK and that American women are much more comfortable talking about their experiences.

One American divorcee decided to use the services of a particular escort instead of looking for a long-term partner and was pretty happy going by how she spoke of her relationship (I say relationship since she only asks for the same man and has been paying for companionship and sex with him for some time). The man involved was an ex-marine and built like a brick shithouse and in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend who was in complete knowledge and supported his escorting. That last detail might be a whole new topic on its own.

What are the ladies' thoughts on this? The presenter (who was female) mentioned something about it being so hard to find a decent man that women felt compelled to turn to escorts. I think this was a little exaggerated but it did stay with me after watching the show. Do you think that turning to professionals is the best way for some women to gain companionship? It has benefits but can't really replace a genuine relationship in my mind...or can it? Might make a change from the constant questions about dick size on here as well

This is a bit misleading, most male escorts get most of their money male to male . The male to female bit is more socially accepted so they put that out there . Very few are actually straight.

The programme was titled 'women who pay for sex' so it was the women that were the focus of the show. That's a valid point you make though, I didn't know about that. I might make a clarification in the leading post.

Exactly, women don't pursue male escorts as much as bisexual/gay men do. Male escorts primarily deal with older gay men and women over 50, from what I have read.

However, I have heard of a growing market for pay-per-hour platonic boyfriends. In Japan women will rent these men who will pretend to be in a close relationship with them for a few hours. They listen to these women talk about their day and give them undivided attention, take them out to dinner payed for by the woman, and meet some of their emotional needs without every having sex. I'm not sure but I think kissing is allowed, but nothing else.

Why do you think she chose him?

His physique wasn't the only reason (or even a single reason) as to why she picked him. One of the points emphasised was that she would pick a guy for his personality over any other feature entirely. She clearly enjoyed his company when she was with him and actually it was pretty much a long the lines of a regular date in my mind (if that date involves having sex at the end of it, which I know sometimes it can do). I just mentioned his body since it was something that I noticed (as men do notice) but there were men of varying shapes and sizes going by the websites shown.

Nothing was said about dick size but one guy was showing his own line of sex toys and one was an exact replica of his dick and he looked pretty big but I can't know for sure. All the women said that they enjoyed the sex but nothing further than that.

This is the question I was thinking of as well. I've seen another programme about the biggest brothel in Europe where some men just exclusively use prostitutes (notice the different term used) and don't have any other sexual relations outside of this. These men are a very small proportion of the overall clientele.

In recently worked with a guy who used prostitutes exclusively. It stemmed from painful breakups in the past. Yeah I always thought about the difference between a prostitute and an escort too. I think escort is a slightly more formal, accepted term but as long as someone is paying, I guess they can pretty much get what they want whether it be sex or just companionship. One of the male escorts alluded to the fact that some women pay for their services since they have some kinks that require a high degree of trust (think being tied down and blindfolded and having a rape fantasy acted out) so getting a professional makes complete sense for that purpose.

It is sad that some people have to resort to such measures, males or females, if they can not get a real life companion and have to pay someone and fool themselves, I can only feel sad for them, and hope they find the real thing one day, because nothing can be a substitute for a real relationship, a real lover, a real partner, but maybe some people are very hurt from failed experiences or other life problems that lead them to this.
