    Update 6-18-2013

On March 29th. my urologist told me I had a Total Testosterone Level of 190, below the minimum level of 241 on the chart. He told me the only way to fix this was with Hormone Replacement Therapy and he prescribed Androgel. I said, " Whoah!!!! Wait a minute!!! I have sleep apnea and other health issues that should be checked before I accept a life on Androgel". I thought my life was over.

I went to another doctor who diagnosed me with Vitamin D Deficiency and confirmed the Sleep Apnea. I just received my CPAP machine and will begin using it to hopefully start getting some sleep. I also found I have endothelial dysfunction and low Nitric Oxide levels, which I am working on. I also have near pre-diabetic blood sugar levels, possibly related to the low Vitamin D or the Sleep Apnea.

I decided to make major lifestyle changes. I went on a strict, nearly organic diet and resumed exercising but began High Intensity Interval Training, versus aerorbic exercise. I also switched my personal care products (Soap, Deoderant, Shampoo, Etc) to organic.

I just received my latest blood test results.

    Total Testosterone - 565

Free Testosterone - 119 (Range 35-155) This is the really important number

Vitamin D - 48 (Up from single digits and needs to hit 80 or so to be optimum)

I am still suffering from Fatigue, headaches and feel weak overall, but I think the CPAP machine will help me in that department within several weeks.

This goes to show that you can't always trust your doctor and can never trust the big pharmaceutical company's. I'm hoping to hit my goal by this time next year and have my Total T level around 800

Congrats brother! I definitely second what you say about not trusting the doctors. My doctor prescribed me some blood pressure meds and that's what caused my T to go down. I have been off that med for 3 months now and haven't had any T shots either. Everything is working well so far. I will be going to get my levels checked within the next few weeks. Hoping for the same great news that you received. Well done my friend!

Thank you very much! I wish you the best of luck. Since receiving the LOW T news, I have been a fanatic about proper nutrition, eliminating toxins from my diet and environment and about exercise. I was hoping I had doubled my T level from the 190 level in March, but I never imagined that I could nearly triple it in three months. I'm really pleased that what I'm doing is working and I'll continue on my current path.

My blood pressure was high for a few years (I never took the meds) and now it's low (98 over 52 or so). High Intensity Interval Workouts are the key and a healthy MAN's diet. I eat eggs and meats daily, brown rice, rolled oats, lots of broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, garlic, onions, chickpeas, almondsm peanuts, natural peanut butter...an organic caveman diet. I've eliminated refined sugars, sweets, processed foods and anything made with white flour. Unfortunately, I've also quit drinking coffee and my favorite Newcastle Ale.

I also take supplements like the Garlic, Ginger, Gingko Biloba, Pumpkin seed Oil, Grape Seed Extract and a few others and some of these seem to help lower blood pressure naturally.

Good luck...I'm living proof it can be done.

Good for you! Way to go. And I think you are right on about big pharma. I think this is now the IN thing (testosterone treatment), look at all of the commercials. The pharmaceutical companies are making mucho mulla. I am 5 days off of Androgel. My total T was 450 when I went to the doctor, and my estrogen was really high. Got my testosterone up to 1100 after 8 weeks, and still I felt nothing. I have read that if I lower my estrogen, my total T numbers could rise 200 more. I am going to try what you are doing with the organic soaps and shampoos. There is so much Xenoestrogens that are in these products. Xenoestrogens are nothing more than synthetic and natural chemical compounds that mimic estrogen. And as you age and put on belly fat, there is an excessive amount of an enzyme (aromatase) that converts testosterone to estrogen, so this can cause it to rise too. DIM (Diindolylmethane) is good for combating excessive estrogen as well. It can be purchased over the counter. Or eat broccoli and Brussels sprouts, as these veggies have DIM in them.

What an inspiring story OP! I haven't been in the sun for twenty years, and my vitamin-D levels were last time I measured it as low as 6. This was back in 2005. And I haven't been more into the sun.

After reading your story, I am even more inspired to actually expose my body to the sun and to increase the vitamin-D level using D3.

Thank you. You have all the right ideas and reducing estrogen is key. I didn't know what my estrogen level was when I was diagnosed with a 190 T level, but I researched and did everything possible to avoid estrogenic compounds. Avoid Parabens, Bisphenol A and Phthalates. I switched to an organic diet, organic personal products including toothpaste and I got a water distiller for the house to ensure my drinking water is pure. Puritan's Pride has a great selection of natural personal care products, soaps, etc. Avoid anything with Tea Tree Oil which mimics estrogen. I bought shampoo and toothpaste that had Tea Tree Oil only to discover that I shouldn't use them. I bought a natural shampoo and conditioner at Rite Aid Pharmacy called YES to Carrots and it's great.

To reduce estrogen, I take DIM, Chrysin and Stinging Nettle on alternating days with Sunday off, meaning I only take one supplement per day and only twice per week each. I take 50 MG of Zinc each day along with Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Stress B Complex, a multi mineral and many others. I had to make a spreadsheet to keep track of my morning and afternoon supplements LOL. I eat Broccoli and Cauliflower in mass quantities. I exercise to build muscle and reduce the body fat.

My doctor told me there was no way to ever increase my Testosterone level naturally and the only way was HRT. I'm glad I fired that doctor. You have to find the root cause of the problem. I made many lifestyle changes plus began recovery from Vitamin D deficiency, so I don't know for certain what the root cause of my problem is. I still have sleep apnea and am trying to get used to wearing my CPAP machine at night. I guess I'll just have to keep doing everything I'm doing now.

              Good Luck!

Thanks! Sun exposure and Testosterone go hand in hand. Vit D levels affect Testosterone directly, since the Leydig cells in the testicles have D3 receptors.

In 2008, my doctor said I had low D and gave me no guidance regarding what to do. I began taking around 800 IU daily and I still had a D level of 12 when checked recently. The new doctor prescribed 50,000 IU of D2 taken once a week for 8 weeks. That stuff made me feel worse. I learned that D2 is the wrong Vitamin D for Humans and that our bodies only use D3. So I quit the D2 after 5 weeks and started taking 5,000 IU of D3 daily. I've read that low vitamin D is linked directly to LOW T and can also cause sleep apnea, insomnia, blood sugar issues and an overall reduction the body's ability to fight off cancer, diabetes, MS and on and on. I'm hoping when my D level reaches the target of 80 or so that my sleep issues will begin to diminish. Vit D, a hormone may be one of the most important vitamins for your overall health and wellbeing. I plan on getting checked 4 times per year, even if the insurance will not pay and I have to pay out of pocket. At least that way I can adjust my dosages to stay in the target range of around 80. I've been weak, fatigued and my overall wellbeing has been poor for at least 4 years and I'm thinking Vitamin D along with a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet and sleep apnea are the culprits.

No go out in the sun...
