  • Just Saw My Doctor, B-12 Deficiency

So I visit the doctor twice a year. Once in January, again in July. Last January, I was dealing with what I now believe to be porn-induced ED. Since I was 18 at the time, and in fairly decent shape, he assumed it was nerves and didn't do anything to help me. July 2013, I had another visit, and told him I still couldn't keep erections. He ran blood tests, called a couple of days later and said everything came up clean. After that visit, I quit porn and saw great results. While not perfect, I was able to keep erections a lot longer than usual and even if I did lose it, it usually didn't take too much to get it back up. However, about late November, my erections began suffering again, but this time I knew it wasn't porn.
Today, January 5, I had another visit. Once again, I told him the deal. This time he ran some more tests and determined that I was B-12 deficient, and my Test levels were significantly lower than in July (I gained weight so maybe it's the estrogen). He said that I was still within normal range of testosterone, but for some reason, my B12 was low. When I got home, I immediately checked my multivitamin, and on the back, it claimed to have over 100% of the RDI for B-12. Hmmm, fishy. He recommends injections since my body readily excretes whatever I ingest. BTW, B-12 deficiency is linked with impotence.

    Anybody else with this problem?

What brand is your multi? It may just be a shotty version of vitamin b 12.

I cycle between Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men and Centrum Flavor Burst weekly. Centrum contains 167%, Optimum contains 1667% (not a typo), not to mention I eat plenty of meat, eggs, and cheese which should take care of that anyway.

Some supplements are crap, even some of the big name companies produce garbage that body does not utilize because of digestion.

If your doc says its low enough to need injections I would listen to that doctor instead of us internet scholars. Trust me on this.

            Interesting Big-O.

I am not real versed on supplements. But there are some that are pointless, Your body will simply reject any excess. There are others your body will keep absorbing to the point it will make you sick. You have to know yourself and taylor your intake to your own personal needs.

Example: My family has history of Cardio ailments.

            I take:
Gingko Biloba. Keeps the O2 levels up in the blood stream. Doctor is usually quite pleased with that.
Phytomega supplement. Mix of Phytosterols and a few other things to keep Cholesterol down, healthy triglicerides, and promote overall heart health.

For High Blood pressure, I trust my doctor and take a Lisinopril presecription. Its long established as a safe and effective control medium.

Name brand never really gaurantees anything, but I do stick with GNC, or Melaleuca through a friend. I rarely buy any run of the life stuff like centrum and the like. They are all pretty much crap, in my opinion. I never experienced any noticeable effect from them.

You are doing the best thing you can. Discuss with your doctor. My wife does it all the time. She takes supplements to replace some of the medications she used to take, but consults her doctor as to wether they are a viable alternative or for any interaction with prescriptions she does take.
            Start: 9/2012 6.5x4.5
            Progress: 8/3/2016 7.375x5.1
            Goal: 7/16/2015 7.75x5.5

I'm no Dr. but, do some research. Low B-12 can lead to a lot of things. There are many people who have signs of MS but its low B-12. I know this because this is what my wife was goin thru and we did a lot of research. I would read up on it a lil more there is a lot of info out there.

You're 18? When are you losing erection? During sex or just while masturbation?

Porn can be a guys worst enemy. Trying to compete with the performance and size of what they watch. It causes lack of confidence. Lol try watching some porn bloopers, those are funny and kinda lets you see real world stuff.

I know you said your body excretes it but it can't hurt to up the smoked salmon, herring, tuna, canned sardines, trout, beef and eggs in your diet. All of these are fairly high in B-12 and with luck some of it might get absorbed. Cranberry juice taken with your food or cranberry supplements may help absorption. Good calcium levels are also important for absorption, so get drinking milk or eating some cooked kale. Caffeine could also stimulate the production of stomach acid which might help.

What you have in a vitamin is ' the minimum daily requirement", enough to prevent certain low vitamin diseases like scurvy but not enough at times to keep you completely healthy.

Some vitamins/minerals compete with each other for absorption, and sometimes the formula requires certain forms to be bioavailable or even blend together in the tablet, so they may increase this or decrease that, plus, most of these Multivitamins get exerted anyways.

Opti-Men recommends 3 a day. Are you taking 3 or just 1? I take Opti-Men and I was taking 1 a day to start. I take it for the Zinc however.
