Walking is great exercise if someone is heavier - don't forget that whilst walking may not push the heart rate of a very fit person into to 65-75% of maximal heart rate range, it may do that to someone who is less fit & heavier. Avoid over striding - shorter, quicker strides are best.
Walking is also going to be much less taxing on the knees than running.Vulcan

I am heavy and unfit. I am not doing any exercise at all, so walking up a hill ends with me breathing like a steam engine. Very embarrassing! Especially, if you walk with the 12 year old kids you teach. Luckily they are nice, caring and supporting kids.
I have chosen walking in the forest on a track that is hilly as well as walking next to the Bosphorous, which is more flat. I will do this for 3 weeks and then start doing cardio workouts in the gym. The idea is to get into it slowly.Last edited by jakkie; 03-12-2012, 02:57 PM.

A good gym instructor will be able to advise of the best classes to take when you do hit the gym - things like aqua aerobics is good.
But avoiding high impact on your joints is key - as it is painfull & can discourage you away from your aims. As was mentioned above, elliptical machines & recumbent bikes are good.Vulcan

About 6 months ago I decided to loose weight, start PE consistently and hit the gym to exercise.
I started a PE log and a weight watching log.
In 5 months and 10 days I've lost about 25kg (about 55 lbs).
Everyone now is commenting the weight loss, since it is that much and really shows. I started about 116kg (256 lbs) and now I'm about 90kg (198 lbs). My goal is to loose about 5kg more.
In the process I got into healthy eating habits. I know that I've being cutting quite a lot of calories, but I'm eating so much healthier food, every day.
I also hit the gym 3 times / week. When I started I was unfit as you can not imagine. But this has changed. Slowly but steady. I really enjoy the feeling that the training is giving me, especially afterwards.
My NBPEL gains were also from weight loss. I've gained in NBPEL about 2,6 cm (about an inch). I was also into PE all those months, so it is not easy to say what came from weight loss.
My EQ? Loosing weight, exercising, PE ... So much better!
I also have all the endurance in want in sex now to go without getting tired (something that was not true before).
We are talking about a new, better me. I already enjoy this so much.
I still have goals, weight to loose and PE gains to see. But the most important will be to keep this new lifestyle. Keep the weight off, keep the healthy eating habbits. I want to do it.

I do hope that this would also be a new beginning for me too. I have already lost 10 kilos through following a low GI life style since I moved to Turkey in September 2011. But I have picked up 2 kilos lately with some of the bad habits from before returning.Last edited by jakkie; 03-12-2012, 04:38 PM.

Thanks!Hey man, congratulation with your weigth loss and PE gains.
In those 6 months, there were times I also gained weight for some days... First of all, in my diet I choose to have a 100% free day (one day each week). Important for metabolism, socialization, will, and after-the-diet-attitude...I do hope that this would also be a new beginning for me too. I have already lost 10 kilos through following a low GI life style since I moved to Turkey in September 2011. But I have picked up 2 kilos lately with some of the bad habits from before returning.
There were holidays (Christmas included) where I gained (more than 2 kg). It was temporary. Those kilos were not difficult to be gone afterwards.
I wish you the best for your new beginning!

Thanks for your contribution. I am drinking green tea every day since I started with PE 3 months ago. Today is mu fourth day on phase 1 of the south beach diet, which I will be doing for 7 days before I switch to phase 2. In phase 1 no carbs are allowed..saying that I am having a teaspoon of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of ginger with my green tea daily.Originally posted by Pascal143Swimming is one of the best exercises to lose weight. Green Tea is one of the best way to lose your weight, helps you to lose your extra weight and also use low carb diet food.
During phase 2 (next week) I will switch to low or GI carbs (such as brown rice) once a day for 3 days then add an additional carb (low GI fruit or bread or wholeweat pasta) till I reach my target weigth.
