They tend not to give details about their methods Wishful. In general terms however they do a range of things similar to other agencies . So they wiretap and monitor phone and net . Keep contact and share info with overseas agencies etc . One thing they seem to do vey well is keep contacts within the muslim community.

A Melbourne man is preparing to sue police after he claims he was injured while being arrested over an Anzac Day terror plot in 2015.
Eathan Cruse - aged 19 at the time - claims Victorian and Federal police officers repeatedly kicked or punched him in the head while arresting him at his Eumemmering home.
"They slammed me on the ground, hit me with his gun, I think I passed out, then I woke up and guys were still laying into me, they were kicking me with their steel cap boots," he told 9NEWS days after the event.
"(A police officer) grabs me, handcuffs me, says 'what's your name', I said Eathan, he said yeah that's the one, he kicks me right across the face, as my hands were cuffed."
He was later released without charge but says he is left with the scars of a terrifying night, where police stormed his family home around 3am.
Now, he is suing the state of Victoria and Commonwealth for unspecified damages.
A writ filed with the *Supreme Court this month claims he is suffering post traumatic stress and chronic adjustment disorder causing depression and anxiety.
It says Cruse was pushed into the fridge before being shoved onto his stomach, where he says he was repeatedly kicked and punched to the back and side of the head, forehead, neck, face and body.
"We're still traumatised. My five-year-old boy asks if the police are going to shoot him when he walks across a light...how would you like your little son to ask those kind of questions?" Father Glen Cruse told 9NEWS today.
“It was a horrific night, what the police did, they terrorised us, it was absolutely shocking. They should be held accountable for what they do.”
The family lodged a formal complaint to Victoria Police four years ago, sparking an internal investigation which is still active.
In a statement, the Cruse family lawyer says they were “left discontent and unsatisfied with the police complaints mechanism.”
“This is unfortunately a common narrative for so many members of Aboriginal communities who are themselves victims of police misconduct,” it read.
MP Jill Hennessy declined to comment on the case but said “I do think any and all victims of crime deserve our empathy and respect”.
The writ says Cruz is seeking unspecified damages for significant mental injury. If mediation fails, the case will be heard in the Supreme Court, where he could receive compensation worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Cruse admits he was a close friend of Numan Haider, who attacked two counter-terrorism police officers with a knife outside Endeavour Hills police station and was killed.Comment

Well, he is alive. Victorian Police follow the shoot first, question later mode, not saying they are violent, uncontrolled or do not have to follow certain procedures. Eumemmering, couldn't they have chosen a shorter name, is near Dandenong which is not exactly a law abiding part of Metro Melbourne. Would I live there? Nope.Comment

In this attack the terrorist tried to use a car bomb ,however as explosives are controlled and many have been arrested trying to get hold of them he used gas cylinders . This wasn't effective . Guns are hard to get so he used a knife . The man he killed was in his 70's just walking down the street he was slowed down by a local security guard who was stabed in the neck but has recovered then a local homeless guy hit him with a shopping trolley slowing him down enough for the plocie to get in place and shoot him.Originally posted by Pegasus View PostComment

Prime Minister Whatshisname has chided the islamic community for not doing more to identify terrorists .
Which is funny sinch other pollies and law enforcement have often commented they have good ties with and good info from that community.

Access to encryption processes is clearly a major weapon in terrorists' hands. The Government will have to fo..rce the social media people to give our excellent intelligence agencies access to the algorithms. There will be the usual bleeding heart bullshit about freedom of speech but you don't have much of that if some diced inspired by religious ideology can kill you.Comment

Of course terrorists and pro criminals will do just that unless they are very stupid.
The aussie death rate from terror attacks is low . The police catch them as they try to source firearms or explosvives .
Of interest to me when they have used knives overseas they have often been very successful but in aussie they get hit with lumps of wood or a shoping trolly.Comment

The local airport was shut down by a guy waving a knife and claiming to have a bomb ,yelling in arabic .
The police shot him with a bean bag round and he "decided to surrender".
It has been classifed as a domestic violence incident.Comment
