I got this Quote from a site called Peak Testosterone so off the net . That said the info seems to mirror onsite experience.

    Quote
However, I first want to encourage you to throw out the completely lame and utterly useless “normal” range that your doctor or lab technician will give you. A typical normal male testosterone level range given is 260 -1080 ng/dl as (which corresponds to about 8.8 - 36.7 nmol/l). Well, to that I can only say that you can call any level you want normal, but 260 is nothing but ugly. In fact 300 and 350 are ugly testosterone levels for a male. Virtually every email that I get where a guy is struggling is from some guy with total testosterone under 400 ng/dl. And younger guys, again based on numerous emails that I have received, struggle with testosterone less than 500. I have never received any email from someone complaining with testosterone levels over 500.
CONVERSION FACTORS: On this page I am only talking about total testosterone and in all cases I use values given in ng/dl. If you want to convert to, say, nmol/l, you must use a conversion factor of 29.4 or .034 going the other direction. Yes, that high school chemistry may pay off for you if you’re from a country or reading a journal article that uses moles. If you are interested in normal free testosterone levels, please see this link on Free Testosterone.
So the normal testosterone pain threshold is about 500, depending on a male’s age and history. (Below 400 is almost always a free pass to hormonal hell.) That is why I am so disgusted with the medical profession when they tell one of my fellow male brothers that a total testosterone level of 290 is fine and normal. (Please read my link on Testosterone Symptoms if you do not know how dangerous low testosterone levels are to your health.)
That said, I want to make several important points about male testosterone levels and lab readings. First of all, you should keep in mind that it’s unwise to go by one reading, because your testosterone fluctuates considerably from week to week and even from day to day. Stress, lack of sleep and many other things that are a normal part of life for us males – see my link Common Things That Lower Testosterone – can whack testosterone levels. It is entirely possible, for example, for your testosterone to be 400 one week and 525 the next. Lifestyle issues can whack even normal testosterone 20-30% or more.
You should also try to get your testosterone levels read in the morning if at all possible. Male testosterone levels peak in the morning and then steadily decline until late evening. This decline from am to pm is, on average, about 35% for most younger guys and about 10% for seniors. (See my link on Daily Testosterone for more information.)
In addition, it’s worth pointing out that labs aren’t perfect either. I had one testosterone reading that was three times any previous reading that I had ever received! Of course, there is no reasonable explanation for that reading and it was surely an outlier from normal as they say in the stats world.
All cautions aside, though, we can come to some conclusions and you can assess your testosterone levels against the average for males. For example, there was a 1999 study that examined 4,393 men between the ages of 32 and 44 and found that their average testosterone level (at 8 a.m.) was 679 ng/dl. [1] It should be noted that in this study the men with testosterone levels slightly above 800 were 42% and 72% less likely to have high blood pressure and a heart attack, respectively, than those with testosterone a little less than 400. Again, solid testosterone is good for you!

No if it's the scale I think it is it's average if you are in your 50's. Of course the average 50 something is not regarded as sexually rampant . In fact I hazard a guess that low eq is fairly normal and the odd occasional inability to get an erection would be regarded as very normal in this age range , a youthfull ability to get erections quickly and ejaculate often should not be expected yada yada.

Well there is a lot of vary in how a guy will perform at a given test level. For that matter there can be a fair vary test to test.

For all I know you could be a rampaging stallion . However it's more likely you are performing like a typical 50 something. Now this won't worry your doc you are very much within "normal" levels . Hell some docs would regard it as within "ideal" levels as men tend to be more docile and enguage in less risk taking activities at this level ,less dangerous driving , fights etc more docile . Now you may agree that this is the right level for you, either because your performance is good ,or because you are more, hmm lets not say docile lets use relaxed, at this level.

I am well over 50 and my total T ranges around 300. Though I do not suffer from a libedo proble, I do suffer from sever ED, but that is a result of 20 yeZrs as a diabetic.

I tried TRt because of the ED which increased my total T to over 900 which increased my libedo but did nothing for my ED. I now had a raging sex drive but only a limp noodle to satisfy it. When my testicals started to shrink, and my PSA increased from 1.1 to 1.6, my uro recommended I phase out the TRT. When I did quit TRT, my total T fell to 190 which had only a slight effect on my libido. Subsequently, my T returned to around 300 which is fine and allows me to have penetration five or six times a week though I do need medical aid to achieve and maintain my erection.

Ok so what am I supposed to gather from both posts? I've had two T level tested done in the last year, first 188, second, 212, and I'm 55. My urologist told me my range was low but livable as Replacement T therapy is a no way back therapy. Once ya start, never can stop as your balls stop making T. I told him with Viagra i can still get hard to please my awesome wife, 2-4 times a week and as long as I can do that I'll hold off. He agreed. That being said I'm still very depressed most of the time, no motivation, no strength and a lot of muscle loss, 30 pounds over 5 years. I tire easily and have very little desire to do, anything, including sex. If she wasn't so much fun to watch, or i wasn't so crazy about her then then I wouldn't bother.

              Hey Party!

i never experienced muscle loss or or reduced energy. Accordingly, you may be a candidate for TRT. After six months on TRT, you can phase it out and return to normal natural T production in a month or two.

Well Party your situation is more problematic .
Firstly I assume the doc has ruled out underlying health issues causing this ?

My advice first off would be to forget what the doc considers "liveable" and think on your own quality of life .

You might consider natural methods of test increase as here
                https://www.pegym.com/forums/exercis...tosterone.html

You might find an increase by natural methods gets you up over 300 and you may find that improves quality of life .

Or you might want to reconsider hrt I suspect you are a good candidate for it.

There are a heap of issues that can be had form low test but for unknown reasons a guy may or may not get a given one .

There also seems to be a lot of vary in how a individual body will run on a given amount of test.

Typically a doc doing hrt will aim around 500 -600 though obvious it will bounce around at first as the dosage is adjusted .

They seem to pick this level because it is very normal ,very average .
There also seems to be an argument it gives the overall best result as a trade off between different things like heart attack risk and risk taking behaviour .

Well thanks guys. There are loads of underlying issues, high BP, Closteral and meds to help with each. So what y'a gonna do, it is what it is. Just depressed about it more today than usual after my wife guawking at my hot brother in law and my 61 year old uncle carrying a cooler, I couldn't even lift into the truck, Ugh

i used to bench 300 pounds free weights, damn.
