Yes it's only a low percentage. I have to be a little skeptic though and think that maybe at least part of the sufferers of low T while taking statins might have been in the riskzone of getting it or getting it anyway. And I would say clogged arteries and dying an early death is worse than low T since it can be treated with HRT? Statins for some people really can change your life from a certain early death/severe cardiovascular disease risk to a normal life. If I'm not mistaken a main risk factor mitigating effect of statins is that besides changing dyslipidemia back to normal they also lower CRP?

Hi Peckerachu, what you need to do is go up to the top and read down all the way to my last post and your see that Statins is not quite the drug you think it is from all the hype its been getting, why get put on a drug all because of a maybe or it could, that is not how it should work.

If you really do some reading there are a lot of patients being put on statins when they have nothing wrong with them, some all because they fall under a category or because of the age, and as your read above even children are being sorted out and put on them at the age of 10.

Do you actually believe that is the way to medicate people and 10% of those will fall ill from very bad side effects that does kill some, in that case what a great fucking drug you so love, just hope you never get put on it or perhaps you should then you can sit there waiting for the side effects that could just do that to you, just leave you sitting there not being able to move, is that what you would really like? try telling your doctor its a side effect and your be told no its all in your head.

Well I believe dyslipidemia is extremely dangerous and can kill within 6-10 years. If the underlying factors are such that you can become healthy without the use of statins this is obviously preferable! If you can't you have a choice of taking statins of getting severe CVD, easy choice!

A 10 yr old with really bad cholesterol ratio LDL/HDL because of genetic faults has no choice but to take a host of other medications AND statins or be dead within 10 years, easy choice again I was not saying taking statins to allow one to lead a bad and lazy lifestyle with good cholesterol ratio is a good thing as opposed to changing your diet and exercising.

We know a diet that contains a majority saturated fat compared to unsaturated leads to cholesterol disease/ dyslipidemia. But you also can not cure yourself from eating healthy if you are sick from another reason.

Also side effects from statins is extremely dose dependent and they have a very good effect even at the lowest dosages of 5mg daily which is almost side effect free.

Its not 10 year olds with high cholesterol its if the parents fall within certain boundaries there trying to get them on statins, so patients are being forced on them and there 10 year olds, does that sound right to you, you really think that is the way to go, my wife's best friend from childhood is on them and she is suffering all because her brother died from high cholesterol, but she's one of the silly ones and cant see the light.

This not the way to medicate people all because of a could be or a may be.

Hi Girls and Guys just incase you would like to go away from statins but still want to be eating healthy, and yet keep your cholesterol down to a very healthy level that they say statins will, 2 Mayo Clinic links I think you should read through.

                  mayoclinic dot org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/cholesterol/art-20045192?pg=1

                  mayoclinic dot org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/food-and-nutrition/faq-20058439

Being an olive farmer I do know just how good it really is for you, the average Greek consumes around a wine glass of olive oil a day, I have around 2 table spoons a day, sometimes more, I use on my skin and in the hot weather to be out in the sun, my wife use it on her hair, and its very good as a sexual lubricant in fact its one of the oldest there is, in women it helps you fight YI's.

So its that good for you and a lot more.

Hi Girls and Guys well according to this piece of news there is help coming your way if you have really high cholesterol that statins do not help, never heard this one before your on a drug that is doing no good all because your numbers are to high.

So any way read through this.

Patients can be treated for high cholesterol WITHOUT statins as drug approved for NHS use
A TREATMENT which can lower cholesterol without using statins has been given the go ahead for use on the NHS by health watchdog NICE.
The drugs will soon be made available to people in England and Wales with raise cholesterol levels who are at risk of a heart attack of stroke.
NICE - the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) now has 90 days to ensure the treatment is available for people with LDL cholesterol - low density, or ‘bad’ cholesterol.
The treatment, called Alirocumab - produced by company Sanofi - is approved in the UK for use in patients who are unable to reach their ‘bad’ cholesterol treatment goals, despite modifying their diet and taking a maximum tolerated dose of a statin and other lipid-lowering therapies.
The guidance has been hailed as a ‘major step forward’ for the thousands of people in the UK who are sill unable to control their cholesterol levels, despite taking the maximum tolerated dose of statins.
Patients who have high levels of LDL cholesterol, an inherited form of high cholesterol levels and those who are statin intolerant will benefit.
Despite the widespread use of statins and other lipid-lowering therapies to reduce raised cholesterol levels, some people in the UK remain at significant risk of having a cardiovascular event and are unable to lower their cholesterol to levels indicated within national guidelines.
Alirocumab belongs to the most recent cholesterol-lowering class of treatments called PCSK9 inhibitors.
PCSK9 is a protein that plays an important role in managing ‘bad’ cholesterol by regulating the number of receptors for ‘bad’ cholesterol on the liver’s surface.
By reducing PCSK9, the treatment increases the availability of receptors for the ‘bad’ cholesterol and therefore lowers the levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol in the blood.
Alirocumab is the only PCSK9 inhibitor with the flexibility of being available in two starting strengths - 75 mg and 150 mg - to be used once every two weeks as a single injection.
Jules Payne, chief executive of Heart UK said: "Across the UK, someone dies from cardiovascular disease every three minutes.
"Raised cholesterol levels can put people at significant risk of a heart attack or stroke and, for some people, statins at the maximum tolerated dose can be insufficient to reduce this risk.
"HEART UK welcomes today’s publication of this NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance for a PCSK9 inhibitor and is pleased that there will soon be an effective and much needed alternative treatment option for those at high risk of cardiovascular disease available on the NHS."

Dr Tunde Falode, director of the cardiovascular division at Sanofi said: "Sanofi is delighted that Praluent will shortly be available on the NHS for people living with the risk of raised cholesterol levels.

"At Sanofi we have worked closely with NICE to address the unmet clinical needs of patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease and we are committed to ensuring that these patients have access to this innovative treatment as soon as possible."

Alirocumab is the only PCSK9 inhibitor available in two starting strengths – 75 mg and 150 mg – providing doctors with the flexibility to meet the needs of their individual patients.

So it seems help is on its way and perhaps statins can be buried for good, mind you will have to be a very big hole.

According to my dna test (23andMe) and my Promethease Report, Statins would harm me. For example, I have 2x the odds of myopathy after taking Statins.

Hi Girls and Guys I just picked up on the its from Harvard med, tell me how you feel about this new guideline.

anyone with a greater than 7.5% chance of having a heart attack or stroke or developing other form of cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years.

For me this means anyone from a day old child upwards because a heart attack can can to anyone from a day old upwards and that I do not joke about, so from this there now saying we should all be on them.

                                The link

So how do you feel about that? a 7.5% chance.

7.5% chance I wonder who thought that one up?
