  • Okay tell me how it's rigged? What mechanism, what law or rule or whatever? I have asked that question to many and the only answer they ever come up with is; "it just is"!

        • The system is rigged by deductions and valuations. If your income is made through investments you pay less percentage. So they take lower salary and get bigger dividend amounts. They convince government to give them multi million and multi billion breaks and properties with promises of economic development etc. Then Prestohey they change what they bring, like FoxxConn in Wisconsin, and Amazon in New York and Virginia. Maybe New York stopped them? We will wait and see. Amazon steals tips from delivery drivers also. In short any way possible. See if the system were equal none of those things would matter. If the rich were investing thier own money it wouldnt matter. Bezos made 100 billion dollars but needs your land and tax incentives? Bah.

          • Once there was a wonderful caring grandfather. He lived in a house he built himself on land he owned out right. It was small and funky. But it was his and he loved it. So in the early 1970s they decided urban renewal would be the rage. So they grabbed up a bunch of properties using good old eminent domain. They told that loving old man he would have to move. No matter what. Well he fooled them. When they came to take him he died. Hahahaa, joke was on them right? They made a parking lot out of his nieghborhood. Oh not just any parking lot. Over flow parking for a new federal building. Never used much, but so much better looking than a funky old house. Worked really well though so communities started using eminent domain to take from the weak and give to you know Walmart, Home Depot etc. That way the communities could entice those big corporations into town. Like Amazon. Then people could work there you know part time to limit benefit payments by those corporations. The workers can be on food stamps and other benefits. The truly tragic part of this is those workers pump 100% of their dollars including food stamps etc into the economy. Those big corporations? Not so much. Now understand these communities were sustaining those workers better with less assistance for generations. Some like your friend were able to cut hair or some other method. Some even got to keep the gratuities paid by wonderful customers like you. But then some dont. Many 1000s are watching the big corporation steal even those few tips. Ain't it lovely?

                  • If I can have all that for the asking why should I, why should anyone go out and break their ass each day? If I delivered oil to homes to keep them warm whenit's cold do you really think I'm going out on a cold snowy night to give oil t someone who ran out? Why risk my life as a cop or fireman when I get all the basics to live on for the asking? No way I'm joining the army to protect my way of life from bad actors. No I have everything I need so let me just enjoy life. On there will be some that will work hard but the majority, well all life by nature is essentially lazy and appealing to that well good luck

                      • I'll always believe there should be a certain level of living standard which includes everything the above details.

I have no problem with people having more whether it be thru hard work or given. Just as long we don't have people dying sleeping on our streets from the cold, people dying waiting for treatment in hospital corridors, etc

Its 2019 and im apparently living in a first world country but at times it feels like Victorian Britain.

                        • The big issue is who provides the funds to make that certain standard possible. There are many who simply do not want to work, and will not work. They are not disabled; they simply refuse to work. Now my taxes, my gifts to charity help those in need and sometimes I give til it hurts a bit. I hope what I pay and give go towards those who are hungry and homeless and just maybe what I give, for arguments sake, helps 5 people. That's great.
Now as the pool of needy, of those homeless, the disabled, the ill, those that can't work and those that don't want to work grows what person, what government can take care of them all? Things do have to be paid for; you can't just print money although some think you can.
Now when all the agencies responsible for helping those I mentioned become overwhelmed by numbers what can be provided to them get less and less. A shelter that can only feed 300 people a day 3 good meals now has a 1000 coming to the door so now we can only feed one good meal to them a day.And as that number swells again, well you get the picture.
When you take away the incentive, the need to work, to earn, to contribute to society many will take advantage of that. I know people today that are able to work but because they had some doc write a note that they're disabled well they simply won't work although they have no physical problems that prevents them from doing so.
A safety net; by all means yes. Sadly when you provide people with all they need to exist; food, housing , clothes many will have no incentive to provide for themselves and before too long those that provide become overwhelmed by those that are in need and those that game the system and society collapses. That has been shown to happen in just about every socialist country at one point or another.
Until human nature changes, if ever, it cannot work. What happens so a sick animal in nature? It's simply left to die. Healthy rabbits don't bring food to a sick one do they? Nope! Nature is cruel that way but nature, instinct, life wants to survive. Natures way of providing for the sick, the disabled, the homeless is to let them die. Lions that do not want to go out and hunt die correct?
No we moral humans see that as cruel so we provide. Many animals that are released from zoos back in the wild because it's cruel to keep them in zoos starve to death because they have been provided for; we screwed around with nature and when we do the result is usually poor..
As our morality tells us to provide before too long the providers will no longer be able to provide for those that depend on it. Yes sad but it's true. Oh the rich could pay more, the corporations could to; the fact is you can take all the money from the rich, take all the profit from corporations and you'll never make even the smallest dent for the needy.
Give us all homes, healthcare, food, transportation without requiring those that can to contribute, well it simply can't be done. It doesn't work.
So what happens as we run out of funds? Do we go to those that don't work and say they have to because we're running out of money? And when they say no they won't work what do we do? Take away their house; stop giving them food? Tell me how you handle that?

                          • Social Services are not Socialism: They are paid for by capitalism (in the US) that take care of the young / old / disabled -
Most developed Countries - dip in and out ... going more social when flush and taking it away when strapped.

Tiny Countries can get away with more socialism when they have powerhouses protecting them...
Powerhouses have a responsibility to maintain a certain level to stop the bad actors.

I'd be hard pressed to name a Country on the Planet that doesn't pamper the Super Rich... No matter the Political system in place.

...and apart from purely altruistic endeavors none of these ventures are "free". The funds and efforts to support these systems have to come from somewhere.

Great cartoon with just a small flaw. It shows that is a stagnant pool of money the rich over time have gotten more. The flaw is that it ignores the creation of wealth.
Wealth, money is not a finite supply in an economy that's growing. That supply grows as money comes into the economy; more jobs, more spending, money coming in from foreign countries to either invest in our companies or buy our products. As that wealth is created yes maybe the wealthy got more because they because they simply put in more but all got some.
We have an economy where wages are rising. If I get a 10% raise and I make 5 bucks an hour then I make 5.50 per hour. The guy making 100,000 bucks gets the same raise so he gets 10 grand more. Too you that's not fair? Do you see if everyone in he country, every worker and factory owner; if we all got the same 10% raise the rich would have more? So you believe it's fair for the poor to get a raise and not the rich? That should even things out right?
The rich take their money and use it to make more. They invest in companies, products and people; that increases their wealth but at the same time creates wealth for others. I know you don't see that.
So let's take their money and give it to those that need. Gone are the incentives for the rich to spend, to invest. As time goes on factories will no longer expand; they don't have the investment money to use. People will lose jobs as machines take over. No new start up companies to provide jobs will exist. You will create a stagnant economy and as time goes on the standard of living goes down. Hey but it would be good for 10 or 20 years right? So we hand to our children and grand children a poorer world.
Capitalism make this country what it is today. What stated off as a bunch of European rejects became the greatest the wealthiest country on the planet, a country with a great standard of living. Now you say we have too much; time to change the rules. What made us great must be changed. The Rockefellers, the Carnegies, the Mellons; well those rich greedy bastards should no longer exist. They had too much as the Bezo's and the buffets have today soo let's change what made us successful and do something different, something that never has proven to work. Go ahead; I won't be around much longer and I will be happy because the poverty, the hunger, the homelessness with what you want will increase. We have a proven winner with social conscience that works. You wanna change that because you know it will work? How do you know that. Oh it will work for you now but it will hurt far more in the future.
Funny we say the rich are greedy and yet we seem to suffer from that very same illness. Oh we can, and we do, say doing this or doing that will help many others but that stems from our need to help ourselves.
