Well I am not an american but I want add this to the discussion .

ct and serve us - especially because it took civilian videos to expose the wrongdoing. Where are the police car videos? Where’s the police body cam videos? How many other times has this happened when there wasn’t a fellow civilian there to film? This is a violation of trust that may never be mended. I have close friends who are amazing cops and I’m sure they are just as horrified at this atrocity - The individuals behind George Floyd’s death need to be tried and convicted of murder. WE need to address the police’s systemic willful ignorance to the abuses of the power we give them. Self regulation isn’t working, we need outside unbiased parties overseeing the police and holding them accountable for the benefit of us all!!

If black lives really mattered why aren't these people in Chicago everyday? Far more blacks are being killed in that city in one year than by any police action. And that's just one city. Why do we do nothing?
Why is it racist for me to say all lives matter? Don't all lives matter? You don't think that white guys or yellow guys or green guys get the same treatment if they give a cop a hard time, especially if they get the wrong cop? I don't understand.

                These are legitimate questions.

That's not the point. Black-on-black violence is an entirely different issue. It's roots and reasons are different. BLM was originally intended to bring attention to the systematic racism of the justice/police system. (See: Trayvon Martin)

It is considered "racist" because, people that exclaim all lives matters, also don't see the point. We are aware that all lives matter, that doesn't need to be stated. We are not saying that Black lives are more important than every other life, however, that is how many people are interpreting it. We are saying that black people are more likely to be killed than other races AND with no justice served behind said killings.

My favorite example of this is in Luke 15:
100 sheep, but one goes missing
Jesus leaves the 99 and goes after the one
The 99: "But what about us...don't we matter?"
Of course the 99 matter, but they're not the ones in danger.

As far as the police, no the other races do not get the same treatment. That's part of the police and justice system reform that needs to happen. Statistics back this up as well.

                Edit:
Since this is a PE forum, let's be relevant.
                I shout small penises matter.
                You shout all penises matter.
How many posts about average or large sized penises do you see where the man is very depressed or has been traumatized early in life vs the man with a smaller penis?
Shouldn't the problems of the guy with the smaller penis receive MORE attention than the guy with the average or larger one?

I believe black lives matters means black lives mater equally to everyone else’s life.

I repeat in the same city an Aussie woman who rang the police to report a crime was shot by the police . She was shot by the police ,a middle aged white woman in her pajamas, she was not armed what threat the police thought she posed is inexplicable .
Where were the demo's on her behalf?
The system is broken and needs reform it is a human rights issue .

Then they should not object to all lives matter . It's a clear statement ;it is clearly not racist ALL lives matter regardless of race .

                          Any comment on Rowdy's statement(post 18)?

I'm personally not offended by either. This thing is all so tied up in emotion it's hard for many to see straight. I agree ALL LIVES MATTER. I also agree African Americans have been systemically shut out of so much opportunity for generations, so I don't mind people saying BLACK LIVES MATTER as a way to highlight that. Native Americans have also been shut out of so much opportunity in the US, it's disgusting.

That said, police abuse of power is not just a problem for black and brown people. Truth is, it's a profession that is mostly thankless, often dangerous, and doesn't pay as well many professions where the "stakes" are much lower. It's also a profession where you spending much of your time dealing with the worst elements of society and with people who are at low points in their lives.

It's not just a situation where the people on "the other team" are stupid and don't know what they're talking about. The issues Rowdy points out are real. The frustration on the ground is legit and comes from an honest place (looters and opportunists aside). The solutions are complicated, and the political incentives to do the hard work is simply not there.

This is bigger than BLM, imo.

These are critical points. I wasn't aware of the roots of BLM until recently, and being uneducated about it can make things easily confusing. BLM is a movement in protest of police brutality. It is especially confusing to see all police officers of all races being targeted, plus all of the other chaos. I don't think any of those images represent what BLM is really about.

However, I think that these days it does need to be stated that all lives matter, because people aren't getting the point. It's not racist for the same reason that BLM is not racist: BLM does not implying that other races don't matter or that black lives matter more than other lives. The meaning has been distorted. Perhaps it's not a great catchphrase for those reasons.

But regardless, I'm more interested in how governments plan to reform police departments and improve relations between civilians and officers. I personally find that to be the practical issue underneath it all, and not so much race.

I agree with this, but like I said my sense is the political will isn't there (I'm speaking specifically about the US, but it's probably true more broadly). The incentive structures aren't set up to actually solve problems for the average working person, and that includes cops as well as fast food workers, etc. The incentives are set up to do the minimal amount possible to keep most people's frustrations at bay so the corporate and political elite can maintain the status quo (ie, maintain their own power and wealth).

Funny thing is, this is a time when something interesting and meaningful might actually happen, given the combination of the social protests and the Covid deal, but I fear it will just be another flash in the pan, and regardless whether it's Trump or Biden, it'll just be business as usual.

Ok, I really gotta get off my soapbox. It's taco salad time at my house!
