Bloody good sport old chap, wot, wot? trying to sound like a pirate is not that easy. Mayb this is better as often pirates were sanctioned by the crown. gold rings to dare your opponent to try and take them by sword?
Nope. Pirates would wear gold earrings in the hopes that when they died someone would take them and use them to pay for a proper funeral.
Now, can anyone guess the real reason for why pirates made people "walk the plank"?

Not even close. There are several theories as to why pirates would tie weights or cannon balls to their victims and make them walk the plank, instead of just pushing them overboard, but the most likely reason is that doing so meant they couldn't be tried and hanged for murder.
This practice wasn't very common as pirates were more interested in just robbing a ship of it's valuables and leaving quickly. If they killed everyone they came in contact with an earned that reputation then the people they robbed would put up a fight to the death every time. That would make it hard to steal anything now wouldn't it?
Now, anyone want to guess why the captain went down with the ship?

Ship and captain were considered linked if captain survived he was hung for losing the majesties property.... this in a query sort of voice.
Yes. Although, it wasn't so much for "losing the majesty's property" as it was because of the ship's price. You gotta remember ships were made and sold by only a few large companies for thousands of dollars each. Captains in those times were leased their ships and chose suicide instead of a life of debt.
Any more questions? Seriously, anything..... I mainly learned about Navy sailors and submarine history in school, but I did spend a lot of time reading about pirates. Since submarines were at one time considered unfair in war and captured sailors were treated as modern pirates.
