  • The Muscle Car Thread!

    Hello,

Anyone who has owned/driven a muscle car, preferably the 50's,60's and 70's please share it here. What make and model, detailed specs and how it was to drive.I love muscle and might never ever drive one.Perhaps recounting memories will be of some solace.

    Thanks.

My first car was a 69 Chevelle. It was rusted and ratty as fuck on the inside. It was also so damn powerful that it was a deathtrap considering the poor condition it was in. My parents decided that on one of those occasions I was able to get it running, I was surely going yo kill myself. They made me sell it, and bought me an Eclipse for me to nearly kill myself in instead.

I've driven other muscle cars, but that was the only one that was mine.

My first car was a 73 Mercury Montego. The car itself wasn't 'muscle,' but the engine was from a Pontiac 350 - pure beast. Tons of great memories in that car.

I bought a 1968 327 cc/ 350 hp Corvette new in Nov, 1967 for $5,400. As mentioned in "My Cousin Vinney," the one with posi-traction. I thought it was fast until I drove my friend's 427 Corvette. I wasn't really that much into cars at the time; however, I had fun racing out of the toll booths on the Garden State Parkway on my way back and fourth to the Jersey Shore every weekend. I remember my neighbor across the street good naturedly remarked once that he was awakened every morning by the vibrations he felt as I backed my car out of the driveway on my way to work.

I now drive a 2008 Miata which I autocross most weekends and take to Pocono Speedway twice a year for Track days. When I turn into the road course at 104 mph in my Miata, I often wonder how fast the Corvette would have been going when it reached the turn in.

I have had a few but I will mention my favorite. I owned a 1970 Buick GS 455 convertable, yes the one with funtional ram air and dual air induction. It was a torque monster listed at 510 lbs foot torque and 370 horse. the horse was lowered in the day for tax and licensing reasons and there are claims that the car boasted more like 425 from the factory. Mine was the white on white and it was beautifull.
It was by far the fastest car i ever onwned and it didnt sound like your grandpas Buick.

My dad owned a 1969 427 ratt vette, with the original 6 pack carb set up. It was more of a beast than my Buick, it was insanely fast and would throw chunks of rubber from the rear tires if you couldnt get your head out of your ass and your foot off the gas.

My cousin vinny's car was a 1966 buick convertable and it was confused for a 66 pontiac, only one came with the posi, the other was a limited slip!

I owned a few over the years. My favorites are the 1971 Olds Cutlass, 1969 Camaro, 1981 Buick Regal Sport Coupe (wifes favorite). The Cutlass was my first car and I loved to load all my buddies in it and cruise Fort Lauderdale beach on the weekends. The Camaro was really fun to drive and the Regal was just a really comfortable car. I was about 1 month away from parking it and replacing the V-6 with a big block Chevy motor. My brother used it to go to school and totaled it on the highway. My wife was more upset than I was since it was her favorite car. I really miss my old cars!

I'm only buying old cars from now on. I'm tired of disposable cars made of tupperware. Take your ECM, O2 sensors, and your MAF sensor and go to hell.

I had a '67 GTX with 440, 4-gear and Dana 60 with 4.10's. Ugly, loud and mean. I dumped thousands into the motor. Kind of car that would make babies cry and women wet.
