I know we have a Bad Movie Thread, but I think we should definitely have a thread for all movies, good or bad. here we can talk about the latest nominations (The LEGO Movie got robbed of a nomination by the way), the newest movies, movie news, or just what we thought of the latest movie we have seen or its latest viewing. Bad or good movie let's get some cinema conversation going.
Recently I watched Aeon Flux, some of you may remember this show being on MTV back when that channel actually had some content that didn't cause brain damage, and boy was this movie just a chore. About an hour in I had to ask myself how long the movie was, see that it is only 1 1/2 hours long, and groan because there was more of this subpar movie and the feeling that I had been there for 3 hours already.
For those that don't know the general story a disease starts to kill people and when a cure is made it makes everyone on the planet sterile, and without giving too much away society is being cloned as people can not get pregnant.
The action of the movie is a bore, with many unneeded uses of slow motion and some questionable stuff like Aeon Flux fighting a secretary and biting off an earring of the woman. Other scenes include her dodging defense systems that look like some odd fruit that shoot needles. This scene wouldn't be bad except her movements, and that of another character in the scene, are weird, you can't see the projectiles being fired from this weird fruit so you are not sure how safe or unsafe the character is. Aeon Flux is a Jason Bourne like character, never misses, does physics defying stuff with bullets and the usual action movie flare, and seems to be able to get out of any jam because "it's the future" and apparently she is equipped with something new every 30 minutes to help her get out of a jam she couldn't possibly have known.
For some odd reason the characters are of the equivalent of a Terminator. You see bad guys get shot in the collar bone and get back up only a minute later, Aeon takes a few bullets and some how doesn't pass out, Aeon's friend takes more than a dozen blades through her hand-feet and still walks like she went on a brisk jog than someone who took multiple stabbings in her weird feet. Unless someone is shot in the head or are nameless soldiers no one ends up dying in any sense of a real way. I know it is a sci-fi movie, but holy hell that is ridiculous.
The characters are about as interesting as used gum. Sure you half want to know about Aeon Flux and her connection with the government leader, but after that it is the same thing you have seen before, except for the fact that Aeon Flux has a friend that has hands for feet, which is incredibly impracticable even though the character tries to convince both the audience and the main character that it is a good idea.
By the time the movie ended I was picking the movie apart in so many ways I lost count. Now I barely remember anything about the the show, but this movie could not have been doing anything any good.
