Broke up with my girlfriend of 3 years, because of long distance - about 3 weeks ago. Her birthday is coming up, too soon to text her?

NO, it would be nice (IMO) to text her on her birthday, wishing her a happy day...nothing more, but a fine gesture from someone she was close to for 3 years. Don't get sucked into any convos re: the "past" though.

It depends on how the break up went. Was it a mutual decision due to the difficulties of the distance? Or did you dump her? Did she dump you? Was it an angry break, or more of a resignation that it won't work, sorry, we tried, if things were different, etc, kind of break up?

For years one of my best, closest friends was an ex. We dated twice, but things did not work out for us. Fought like cat n dog, but once we broke up and moved on to other people we became really good friends. She was a great wing-man, I introduced her to her husband. Just because you break up does not mean that you cannot be friends.

Depends if she broke up or you did. If she then no contact until she initiates. If you did and had no contact from 3 weeks ago then it can be good timing to sense the heart beats by sending a nice happy birthday message and see if she follows it nicely..

Although, if long distance problem didn't change then you must seriously turn her page and look forward to new girl nearby.
