  • Finally found a pelvic floor physio!

    Hi everyone,

Please delete if not appropriate. I made a thread early last year and i can't find it now. Basically, i'm 20 and i went through a very traumatic breakup with my first girlfriend last January. I was a wreck, super depressed and stressed beyond belief. After this breakup. My erections basically just stopped completely, i had terrible lower back pain, hard testicles, zig zag veins on penis, trouble urinating, burning prostate, no morning wood, no sensitivity in penis etc.

For the whole of last year, i went to the doctors about 30 times, i have had an MRI scan, cystoscopy, back pain physio, anti inflammatorys, flow rate test. Pretty much everything. I began to look into pelvic floor dysfunction and realised this had to be causing my ed. However, trying to get a doctor to believe me was almost impossible. i saw many who just said it was in my head. I began to give up all hope and have been dipping in and out of depression and hopelessness. However, last week i went to a new physio and she was very knowledgeable. She asked me what i thought was causing this problem, and i said pelvic floor. She completely agreed and told me she knew a guy who runs a clinic that specialises in pelvic floor dysfunction. I couldn't believe it!!

He phoned me today and i have booked an appointment for the 22nd of march. He said he sees lots of young men with the same problem. The clinic is about an hour away. It's extremely hard to find a pelvic floor physio in my area of England. Now, i don't whether this will help or not but it is certainly a glimmer of hope. I guess i just wanted to say to other guys who are suffering not to give up hope! I had lost all hope and thought things would never get better but hopefully this is the light at the end of the tunnel. i've suffered way too long and im way too young.

    Thank you.

Tense pelvic floor, most likely caused by anxiety and/or stressed induced. Breathe and relax buddy, everything will be okay.

I hope you find tension relief in the near, near future.

Hey man, sounds exactly like my symptoms. im also seeing a pelvic floor therapist, but mine never really looked at my posture or allignment and symetrical muscle imbalances and tightness's and weakness's throughout the whole body really. make sure to bring that up to yours because it plays a huge role in the way your pelvic floor functions. everything is connected and plays off eachother.

the other thing i am starting to realize that is playing a large role is subconciously holding your breath either when urinating, doing streneous activity like stretches or aerobics, or also masturbating.. i realized i subconciously hold my breath during all these things on top of having developed very shallow breathing progressively over a few years of sitting and slouching alot. jsut being mindful taking big deep breaths, while urinating, stretching, or doing anything really has made quite a big difference. the whole base of the pelvic floor seems to expand and contract at the exact same speed as your breaths, so the bigger and longer the breaths, the better.

No its actually in Birmingham, i believe its quite a new centre. The physio that i originally saw said she was interested in my case, and wanted to start treating pelvic floor issues at her centre too. More and more people are becoming aware of pelvic floor problems and that's very positive!

Thanks for the information man! Since, I've had this problem, i've had terrible pain in my right leg, right hip and knee cap. Generally just painful to walk on. Could this be caused by a tense pelvic floor i guess?

Bad posture can be a cause of pelvic floor problems which then causes further issues bit of a negative spiral.

Very possible. Or the surrounding muscles that support the pelvic floor muscles, like the thighs, abs, glutes, hamstrings (which are connected to glutes obviously) etc etc

One thing I'm starting to realize is if one thing is out of wack it will set a whole bunch of other things out of wack too. Striving for literal perfect posture/muscle tone/ and overall balance if possible would be ideal, IMO

Finally saw my physio on wednesday. He was a nice guy who clearly knew his stuff, the examination was intrusive as expected. i told him all of my symptoms and he said i had the classic symptoms of pelvic pain. i said i felt like my pelvic muscles were numb and i couldn't feel anything, and had little to no control over my pelvic muscles. He told me to basically reverse kegel with his finger up my arsehole (haha) and said, "there's just nothing there" i cant feel the muscles working. He said it seemed very narrow and tight.

Next time he is going use ultrasound on my pelvic floor, do some trigger point release and use something called a magic wand which is like a glass stick thing, that you basically shove up your butt and use it to relax your pelvic floor muscles which i can use at home. Sounds strange and weird but i just have to put my ego aside and use it. He told me until the next session, do some light cardio, meditation, massage my abdominal muscles. All in all an informative session and the most hope i've had in a year. i have to travel 2 hours to get there but its worth it!

I don't know if you mean on this thread specifically, but i'll share some things i do. I try and do meditation each night whilst breathing through my diaphragm. I try and consciously breathe through my diaphragm when i can. Try and have a goal in your life, something you're passionate about. It will give you something to build and look forward to, taking your mind off your problem. I do hindi squats and practice reverse kegels. Although i've found reverse kegels haven't really been helping my issue, just giving me more pelvic pain. Normal kegels make the issue worst too. I could possibly have a mixture of both a tight and weak pelvic floor.
