Best "Average Size" Poll I've Seen

You do bring a good point, but 1 in 30,000 may not be crazy. That means there are, in the US alone, 10,000 people who match or better your stats, which are quite impressive. There are not a lot of people who can top that, but thanks to porn, a lot of people think an 8" prick is average, not to mention false advertising, most 12" dicks in porn are really more like 10", just on a shorter guy makes it look big. If Hollywood can make Tom Cruise look 6 ft. tall, then porn can make a 10" look like a 12". As for the girth, yeah, you are bigger than 99%. But this all applies to everyone, we all tend to short ourselves on what we have.Starting (20 JUL 2012)

It amazes me how many people don't understand what 'average' means. An average is not a range or a give-or-take interval: it is a precisely defined value. If a survey finds that average penis length is 5.8", then it's 5.8", not some vague range half an inch either side. And a 6" penis is, according to the results of that survey, (very slightly) bigger than average.Originally posted by TheSnitch View PostYou're average. The deviation listed means 'give or take'. So you would fall in the average range.
Of course, it's still well within one standard deviation of the average, which is what people mean by being in the 'average range'. But the average is a single number, not a range.

Well I can think of 'members' both here and at Thunder's Place who are bigger than me right off the top of my head, and I sure as hell don't have 30,000 (let alone 60,000) guys' stats memorized. Of course guys who are members of a PE forum are not a randomly selected sample of the male population but that's exactly my point: the fact that PE works and has a small but dedicated following has probably dramatically increased the number of guys towards the very large end of the spectrum (even if they are still, in the scheme of things, pretty rare).Originally posted by benschmidt View PostYou do bring a good point, but 1 in 30,000 may not be crazy. Ivor you are right it's impossible to know if penis size follows a normal bell curve or not. I honestly don't think it's a stretch to believe you'd be 1 in 30,000. No guys view themselves as big as they actually are though of course, that's pretty clear! As ben pointed out, that would still mean there are 10,000 guys your size or bigger in the country. Think about this: has any girl you've been with had a guy bigger than you?PEGym Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH76tfDxm7Y

I wonder what the average among those who PE regularly? I don't know if a pole would give an accurate number, since as it was mentioned, those at the high end would presumably be more likely to answer it.Starting (20 JUL 2012)

Yeah, but only by a tiny, tiny amount. Too little to notice. Think about it: whether 9" dicks occur once in 30,000 guys or once in 3,000 guys is not going to make any measurable difference to the mean size in the general population, but in the latter scenario 9" dicks are 10 times more common than in the first scenario.Originally posted by BTBrian View PostWouldn't that also increase the average size in surveys too though?
And that's assuming 'average' means 'mean' - if we're talking about the median then extreme outliers, either big or small, make no difference at all.

I think for things like this the bell curve is a good description for the majority of the population, up to a few standard deviations from the mean. Possibly not so accurate as you go towards either extreme. Take height as an example: midgets are much more common that you'd expect if height were perfectly gaussian, because their lack of height is caused by a hormone deficiency or whatever - it's not 'common or garden' shortness. So the bell curve is a poor description of height stats for unusually short people (and I wouldn't be surprised if unusually tall people are more common than a bell curve would predict, too).Originally posted by BTBrian View PostIvor you are right it's impossible to know if penis size follows a normal bell curve or not.
Then there's the effect of PE. According to the stats in this thread, 8" or above should occur with a frequency of about 1/400 while for 9" it's about 1/30,000. So out of a population of 1 million men, you'd have 2,500 who are 8"+ and 33 who are 9"+ (who are also included in the 2,500, of course). But if just 1% of those 8" guys (i.e. 25) took up PE and gained at least an inch, that would almost double the number of 9"ers.
Not that I know of, but then I haven't had as many partners as some guys here have. In any case, I'm a sample of one, which is not a robust sample size!Originally posted by BTBrian View PostThink about this: has any girl you've been with had a guy bigger than you?

I don't think a lot lot of people have had enough partners to have a good grasp of average size. Sample sizes would be too small. Also, I don't think a lot of people measure their partners.Starting (20 JUL 2012)

Plus it's reasonable to assume that bigger guys are likely to get around more than smaller guys - especially with the advent of internet dating, swingers' social forums and so on in recent years - so it's perfectly possible that the average size of the average woman's previous partners is a bit bigger than the actual average size.

People say that and I definitely understand why people would think that but I seriously doubt it. People who are insecure about there size are usually above average to big. And I don't have anything to back that up but on this site most of the guys who claim to be super insecure tend to be bigger and I've also read an article written by a doctor claiming that the vast majority of patients that ask about increasing their size are already fairly well endowed in the first place. Also in my personal experience, I know a guy with a supposedly tiny dick who gets tons and tons and tons of ass and of all my other friends who get lots of tail I have never heard of any of them being large.Originally posted by Ivor View PostPlus it's reasonable to assume that bigger guys are likely to get around more than smaller guys - especially with the advent of internet dating, swingers' social forums and so on in recent years - so it's perfectly possible that the average size of the average woman's previous partners is a bit bigger than the actual average size.PEGym Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH76tfDxm7Y

I seriously doubt bigger guys are more likely to be genuinely insecure about penis size than smaller guys. A lot of 'insecurity' threads are just attempts at fishing for complements, all this "oh noes I'm only 7 inches, will I ever be able to please a woman" rubbish. Whereas a guy with 4.5", the one with the real insecurity, is probably put off from posting at all by exactly this sort of nonsense.Originally posted by BTBrian View PostPeople who are insecure about there size are usually above average to big. I've heard of studies that show a (small) correlation between dick size and number of partners. The fact that you know a smallish guy who gets lots of pussy is one piece of anecdotal evidence and doesn't prove or disprove anything. Hell, I've been with a total of seven women ever, so I'm not arguing from my own experiences here.
