That's not been my experience. I have never lost a girlfriend or ex wife due to money problems. However, I have been left by the women who weren't all that invested to begin with after having psychological problems (death in the family and problems adjusting.) My current girlfriend now has actually been there for me through tough financial times, months where I didn't get a single dime, and vice versa.Sex is the great leveler, taste the great divider. - Pauline Kael

My best mate said similar Wishful. She said my niece has never rebelled. Never smoked or broke her curfew. That's she's just now at 20 trying to go against the flow and I just need to ride it out.Originally posted by Wishful10x8 View PostDon't worry Tara. And having seen you... obviously feminists are beautiful physically. No matter what the others spewed forth up thread.

Why would feminist not like that sort of thinking???Originally posted by WIItard View PostThat movement is done and only the extremist are left to march on. I've had women actually say to me that the feminist movement wasn't a great idea. Many don't want to work, they want to go have kids and take care of the kids. I remember someone said MILF alert and this lady said what's a MILF? I told her, she thought about it for a minute and said I want to be a MILF. LOL. A feminist would not like that type of thinking.
Secondly feminists aren't against stay at home mothers. Same as they aren't against sex works.
All feminism is is equal choice, to not have your gender dictate your job, wage, choices or safety etc.Women were created from the rib of man to be beside him, not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him, but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him.

This isn't a singular generations issue. Every generation has had people like this, men or women. This is just another fad among this generation of people that have their ideals skewed due to what they see and the people they hang around with. We say this 10 years ago with MTV and reality shows, 20 years ago we had people being more influenced by the cartoons, sitcoms, and internet first coming about of the 90s, the 80s filled with fantastic new ideas and marketing everywhere to get you to buy things, and so on and so forth.Originally posted by Tara123 View PostWhere has the ambition of young women gone? I honestly don't know how to relate to this. I'm so worried about her.
Each decade changes the youngest generation in ways that we all find strange. Hell, even when I was part of that current generation I still found a lot of it strange. This isn't anything new, but something you are seeing for the first time and are, understandably, confused. The MTV craze was another big "WTF?!" where my generation were acting far more like idiots than anything else, especially with the internet coming into it's own and offering such insane levels of anonymity.
For your niece understand that this is just a phase and she'll most likely grow out of it within a year. She has to make her own mistakes and with any luck she'll look at a picture of herself now in 20 years and go "Wow, what was I thinking?" Be there for her when she needs and impart the wisdom that only you can give and she should be fine knowing she has someone to look up to when thinking of a proper lady/person.

It depends, which wave of feminists are we talking about?Originally posted by Tara123 View PostWhy would feminist not like that sort of thinking???

Second wave feminists weren't against stay at home mothers but today's third wave feminists are. Second wave feminists we're against porn and sex workers but third wave feminists see it as female empowerment, for the most part. There was a little incident lately with a pornhub pop-up shop being protected by feminists for advocating violence towards women.
You can't loosely define feminism like that either, because the definitions has been muddied so much recently. It used to mean equality, much the same way egalitarianism does now, but it has taken the route of misandry and female supremacy. All we can safely say now is that feminism is for the advocacy of female empowerment.Sex is the great leveler, taste the great divider. - Pauline Kael

I think Tara is missing the point its her niece and her growing up, as we all did and she is now becoming her own women, Tara needs to think back to the time at 16 if I'm right and running a pub, that was her becoming a women.Originally posted by CUSP82 View PostYou guys seem to be missing the point. Say what you like Tara she is becoming the women you was and now are, life is a really big leaning curve.

Feminism have never been about equality. It's all about women, like the name suggests.Originally posted by TheGreatDivider View Post

The difference between past and present is that the goals of older feminists were more reasonable, but that doesn't change that it has always been about women.
Feminism will never seek to help out men because that is not the point.
There is a reason for why women, the gender in whole, throughout history are condemned by philosophers, religions and free thinkers - women think of themselves foremost. It's not stemming from evil intents, its just a part of female biology.
Women are biologically the more important gender, men are disposable. Men care for and protect women, women care for and protect themselves.
Its about survival of the species.
Since humans started to live in civilizations this instinct has no value anymore, but it is still present inside men and women.
Feminism is nothing new, it has happened thousands of years ago in other civilizations. The end result is that those civilizations die out, since their culture and values are replaced with female worship.

Your probably right. I had my belly button and a tattoo by 16. I worked in a bar to support my mam while at school.Originally posted by NOWHARD View PostI think Tara is missing the point its her niece and her growing up, as we all did and she is now becoming her own women, Tara needs to think back to the time at 16 if I'm right and running a pub, that was her becoming a women.

It's just I wasn't as naive as Abbie. Just so worried she's going to get burnt from these actions. Hopefully it's just a phase, she'll dance a few times in the club, realise it's not for her and stop. And stop messing with her appearance.Women were created from the rib of man to be beside him, not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him, but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him.

Tara, at some point in all our lives we all wanted wealth and fame, it is just a matter of what you are willing to give, or give up of yourself to get it. Some achieve and are happy, others are miserable and some don't achieve the wealth and fame they see everyday on media and everywhere else and are happy they didn't or miserable they didn't. It is natural for us to go beyond our comfort zone as young adults and explore the possibilities, it is how we self actualize.
Imo, the people that succeed at wealth and fame and are miserable, are those who did not have any support, guidance or role models along the way, and the same goes for those who don't achieve and are miserable. If I were in your shoes, I would continue to be a good role model and support her wishes but questions her actions. Don't question in an accusative manor but rather in a thought provoking one. Make her think about the choices she's made and if they really make her happy. Ask her that when she sees those wags on TV what appeals to her most about them and what doesn't. Ask her what she thinks life would really be like in the lime life. This will help her to look at the whole picture and make decisions based on her own set of rules. It will help her decide the type of person she wants to be in this world and hopefully later have not regrets. It will also help you understand the woman she wants to become and most likely quash your fears.

The problem Tara is if you put any kind of pressure on her to pack it up she may just stand her ground and stay there, has she always wanted to dance? is she trained in dance? if so she is just using what she knows, if that's right then she is living part of her dream even if its only part time.Originally posted by Tara123 View PostYour probably right. You have to remember these places for dancers are always a bit seedy its a club, the best thing you can do is adviser to stay clean, and watch herself to guys leaning on for favour's of the sexual kind, make sure she's on the BC pill and always carrying condoms just to be safe from STD's, you have to remember she is now a women.

Yeah she been dancing since she was 6. She's won many competitions. She's now classed as Champion level. She's always said when she was older she wanted to be a dance teacher.
She's still got her day job thank goodness and it is an expensive club shes dancing in one night a week. I'm hoping she'll hate it.
Her lips aren't too bad neither but she really didn't need it. I've made her promise she won't get any more filler in them.

If she's anything like the young women I know she'll have a life crisis around 25-30, maybe a kid or a bad breakup, that will compel her to go back to school to be a dance teacher.Sex is the great leveler, taste the great divider. - Pauline Kael

Tara just be her aunty and keep the advice on the friendly side of life as much as you, I would say as she is a dancer just let her dance its what she has always wanted to do, if she is enjoying it just let her be happy doing what she does best.Originally posted by Tara123 View PostYeah she been dancing since she was 6. It will just be experience for when she becomes a teacher of dance, she wont get any other apart from going to London and dance full time there in the west end, but that would also be good for her, mind you she would be away from her aunty, aunty Tara.
Try being happy for her as she is doing what she is and has trained for, you must have seen this coming at some time.

Fully agree with this.. The upper class has had centuries to tweak this system to put it in this position now.. Basically it's a combo of, lack of direction and ones with the direction, finding the means to achieve it.. They can't, yes there are barriers that are not their fault.. Where and how are they??? College here in the '70s was a grand total of $2500 CDN for the DEGREE!! U could actually go to work at a minimum wage job of the day, and pay for the degree coming out of college with no debit and go right into a job..Originally posted by Injoker View PostAh yes, the first fallacy of neoliberal economics. The harder you work, the more success you will have. Except it doesn't work like that, because capitalism relies on your boss fucking you over, and his boss fucking him over, and his boss fucking him over, so that they can all maintain their legitimacy as part of the business (I can elaborate if you want). It is economic feudalism. People are working 80 hour weeks and are not able to pay rent. People get sick and can't afford medication. There is no internship for becoming the CEO of Monsanto. If you are poor, you have the least agency within the economic system, particularly right now, than at any other point in history. Neoliberalism says "economics is a race to the top, and everyone can succeed" which would be true if we had limitless resources. The reality though is that we have finite resources and the more resources you have, the easier it is for you to collect these resources through money. If Monsanto wanted to buy out all of the coffee shops in a small town, what stops them? Morals? Do we really want to rely on the morals of the uber wealthy to look after the world? Because their morals are all twisted by the amount of power they have. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Money is power. The gap between the wealthy and the poor has never been higher. 43.1 Million Americans are living below the poverty line, or 13.5%. When you can't afford clothes, food, medication or housing, how do you become successful? The system is stacked against you from the top down.
What is it now?? 120K for a decent degree.. The tax rates on companies in the 70's where at almost 70% and the individual was very minimal.. But came along the 80's and 90's... The individual tax rates started climbing, while companies started getting the breaks.. A complete reversal of roles.. And we know today's situation obviously.. There is no stopping this juggernaut without some dangerous things happening in the world to right it.. And it will take generations to right it..
There is also any other route that Snowflakes may want to consider for a living.. But it requires them not be snowflakes no longer.. THE TRADES.. I know, dirty sometimes smelly, hot, trades.. Trust me, if willing to learn something technical and be not afraid to break a nail every once in a while, then this is the route.. Lower tuition and a higher pay out of the gate equals little to no debit.. I have no debit myself and haven't for years.. My college friends are at me all the time about how I can live in between jobs that I work.. Well, little to no debit was incurred during my 4 years of education (I have 2 trades)..
My pay check when they are coming in, sure as hell kicks the crap out of one from Wally World or McD's.. Which is what a modern degree from university is setting u up for, unless taking something that is an actual profession..
This current system in reality has to fall and be completely destroyed.. Life must go back to a simpler time with minimal taxation on the individual and less governance of people.. This would mean smaller areas or territories looking after themselves... This is where generation "Snowflake" is going to fall.. This scenario will separate the wolves and the sheep.. It's only the modern system keeping Snowflakes afloat.. Be it in the parents basement, etc.. They are still able to exist.. What would happen would force them into the world to fend..Start: 11/2013: BPEL: 4.73" MEG: 4.5"
