  • As a means to making health care more available and affordable, I'll take the government not meddling in it, over getting even more involved all day long. Shortages of beds, health workers, pharmaceuticals, supplies... all resulting from ridiculous regulation and control. The more the feds control it, the higher the costs will rise, while quality of service and goods declines.

And while the CDC and FDA were busy wasting time and money on their vaping and fat-kids crusades, the administration was publicly entertaining the ideas of anti-vaxxers and giving voice to debunked vaccination myths. If we're not willing to hold these agencies accountable for actually addressing real epidemics (not their made up ones) and making solutions more available (not stifling innovation), we'd be far better off to privatize them.

    • You don't think the CDC was looking into this as soon as word leaked out about it from China? I think you're wrong.

We pay an awful lot it taxes; where does it go? We seem to stockpile lots of salt for winter storms. If we didn't and we had a really bad one, you know a couple of feet, well I guess we ask the Federal Government to give us some. With the speed the Fed government moves it would have melted by then.
We are a republic of states. States should provide for the needs of their residents and in drastic times he Feds come in to supplement. My wonderful governor spent hundreds of millions of dollars on an ad campaign to get business to move to NY. The campaign cost more than any business revenue we attracted. Maybe he could have brought some ventilators?

          • On the issue of privitaised medical . Since the US is world leading on the tek side and is probably the most privitaised among developed nations we shall see if it does better than nations with a more centralised system . Systems where the govt "meddles "far more . So a range of comparison is possible from against Japan /Korea /Singapore to euro countries to english speaking countries with more cultural similarities like Canada/UK/Australia .

And the Federal government should have known to invest in them? Somehow they knew then next pandemic would be a pulmonary one requiring ventilators? And if we had all the ventilators in the world do we have enough trained people to use them and monitor their use? No.

                    • No it's not; it's nobodies fault. If this virus attacked the liver what good would a ventilator do? Nothing! You cannot prepare for everything, every disease. It's impossible. You take the precautions that a society can financially bear and hope for the best. This world will get new diseases here and there and they will kill humans until we figure out the cure.

My point is that they've been diverting their resources and wasting their budget when, in fact, the red flags about the threat of pandemic (and, especially flu and respiratory threats) have been raised and waved for many years. They were completely ill-equipped to respond to it quickly and effectively, and that's their primary role. They were completely caught with their pants down and then tripped all over themselves trying to appear to be the ones best suited to protect the health of the nation.
