  • Getting used to my new job, which has causing a small amount of pain in my shoulder. I believe now should be a good idea to get a follow up on my arm to see if I should be doing this job, which is just cleaning floors, or see if something else may be wrong.

I have definitely been getting a workout from all of this, so I imagine I will be losing some weight while my shoulder is still on hiatus. Just need to get used to all of it.

    • Finally went in for a check up on the shoulder. Still need to take it easy, but I will be on some anti-inflammatory medication for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't get better then I may need a steroid injection. Unfortunately my weight is back up to 350 pounds, most likely from the lack of exercise and of course my nutrition isn't all that great. I expected myself to gain weight, but I was thinking I would be at 330 at most. Oh well.

I guess I am going to really need to watch my food intake while I can't work out. Guess some sort of diet is necessary, but I would need one that won't leave me hungry and something that doesn't make me go too far outside what I usually buy.

      • Started physical therapy today. The therapist is sure that it should be healed up with little problems and probably within the next month.

Ran 3 miles to get to the appointment, so I guess I got some sort of exercise in, plus walking another 1.5 miles for the missed bus.

Nice, strong willpower and traditional means of transportation aka; you're own damn feet are always a great combination.

With winter coming in though I would rather have a more comfortable traditional means of transportation. Guess I only have to put up with it 4 more times though, so I shouldn't complain too much.

            • Update.

Besides me taking my sweet time to start doing them it has been going well. I have been more diligent about making sure I do at least 75% of the things I need to do. Had one of my bands rip and bruised my hand a little, but it was still useful.

After that I have been noticing I have gained quite a bit of weight and, unfortunately, I can't blame the holiday food, but my overall horrible diet. Really I only have about one decent thing a day lately and the rest of of the day isn't what I would call the best. Not really sure how I can even have a decent diet when a meal is one or two protein bars spread out over while I am working. As much as I would hate it I am sure I am going to need some sort of actual diet that is just me eating less or if it comes down to it some sort of nutritionist/dietician (or whatever they are called nowadays).

              • I guess I just got another clue in the whole "LOSE WEIGHT NOW YOU MORON" thing. My hand keeps falling asleep while at the computer. Now it could easily by carpal tunnel, but among me bending my knees at a different angle when bending and this sort of means I really need to lose weight again. Going to have to really watch what I am eating, but not exactly sure I can fit a healthy eating schedule into some of my odder work schedules.

I don't normally ask, as it pains me to do so, but I could really use any help you folks could offer. I would really like to not have diabetes and, at the very least, being under 300 pounds would at least allow me to not be at an immediate -2/10 if I ever start dating. Plus if I ever have sex having my tits bounce less than hers would be good too.

For your hands falling asleep, that can also be a sign of early cardiovascular problems brought on by long periods of time in a stationary sitting position, such as at the computer. Take a short break every fifteen minutes and just walk around, maybe bust out a few pushups. I am a gaming nerd so every time I am killed in a game I pump out five pushups to keep the blood flowing. I had the same issues when I was younger with limbs falling asleep. After going in for testing the doc's found a potential blood clot forming in my leg from the long periods of sitting. I was only 15 and was extremely active, which puts someone with an unhealthy diet and long periods of inactivity at a higher risk.

With your food problems, I have the same issue myself. It's just so easy to grab crap, nuke it in the microwave, eat it and forget. The way I overcame this problem is by preparing meals in advance. Buy several decent sized food storage containers, and cook your weeks worth of meals (try to get lunch and dinner, breakfast can be disgusting if it's cooked eggs). A bland chicken/rice/broccoli diet is easy to prepare and twenty bucks should last the week for dinner. Same if you went with something like tuna and wheat bread for lunch (though I would suggest not prepping the tuna, if it dries out it's nasty).

My TL;DR version of that is to just prepare your food for the week in advance.

                  • Thanks. I'll probably end up seeing a doctor at some point soon about the hand, recently got a bit of pain, so best to just get it over with.

Making food in advance would probably help, but I think, for the most part, I need to just stop making an entire plate of things like pizza rolls or chicken nuggets and just deal with making something that would be better for me. Plus the only things I know how to cook is chicken and pasta, and that 2nd option isn't very great in the amounts I tend to eat it in.

As for physical therapy I went through my 4th appointment and things are looking better. The exercises are easier than they were at the beginning, so right now I will schedule an appointment in about a month to see how I am healing. Can't wait to get this done with, then I can finally deposit those insurance checks and start saving for a car.

It could be cardiovascular and a checkup with the doc is always good. Carpal tunnel is a possibility, but this could be something else. How many years have you been working with computers? Are we talking eight hours a day of keyboard time?

I ask because my current job has me on the keyboard six to eight hours a day. I have been employed there almost ten years. It was around year six that I started getting tingling in my forearms and hands. Some days I could barely lift my arms to the keyboard because of the pain.

I went to the doc and referred me to a specialist, who of course was ready to operate. Then I read a book, "It's not carpal tunnel", and it changed my life. (No affiliation with the author on my part.) I applied all of the techniques in the book and have been in remediation. That book could be your answer.

This really pulls at my heart strings brother. Weight has always been an issue for me. I was 246 lbs and now fluctuate between 186-200. I fluctuate when I fall off the wagon and get back on again. I have read a lot of literature on health and diets. Some of my research has shown that fitness trainers 100 years ago were still arguing the same points as trainers today about diet and exercise.

All of my research has taught me that you have to address the root cause to your weight gain. It could stem from psychological, disciplinary, educational, motivational, or medical issues. The weight will come off if you address one or more of those issues.

The key is to think small (smaller than you just thought)...and you will conquer the world. Examples: Start with changing just one meal a day (or a week at first). Start with doing just one pushup a day. Little steps and build on it each day.

I would love to know a typical days menu for you. Also...what is your activity level on a daily basis? Any current health problems?

Probably would be discipline, and not having a great reason to get skinny. In the past it was a girlfriend, but without that there isn't much of a reason.

I'm starting to do better with the food in the past week. Going back to more of my normal food, but I'm still having issues on that.

My normal was something like this.

Breakfast - Cereal, 1 or 2 pieces of fruit
Lunch - Egg wrap, 1 or 2 pieces of fruit, peanut butter toast
Dinner - Salad, sandwich, 1 or 2 pieces of fruit

There is some special cases. I was making some sort of pasta every week that would last a couple days for me and another person. Depending on what type I would add vegetables and chicken to it. I would also make rice and add the two I mentioned before. There is also the week I would make chicken and just have chicken wraps and salad.

Lately though there has been a lot more microwaved stuff. I work a third shift and do something for about 4 hours before some of those work days, as I need something quick before work. There have been many meals where something was microwaved, like pizza rolls or chicken nuggets, and there has been more pizza as of late.

No real health problems, besides what I was worried about in that quote. I have been noticing that my right foot and my sack has been vibrating for some reason. Just pulses vibration for about a second, stops a second, and does it again, and my foot is colder than the other one during this time. Not real sure what that has been about. After that there is nothing that I know of.

                          • Forgot to mention my activities.

Unfortunately I am not doing much besides what I do at work, which is cleaning so there is a lot of walking around involved. Not much else I am afraid, still going through the last stretch of my physical therapy from when I was hit by a car in July.

Before that I was lifting weights mostly. When Spring/Summer comes back around I will be getting a new bike and start cycling again. I did not enjoy missing out on a good summer of that.

Discipline can be tough to apply on a daily basis. The discipline to work out everyday is nothing more than making it a habit. Like heading straight to the gym after work everday or not sitting on the couch until you do 30 minutes of cardio.

The reason to get skinny has to come from inside you...not an external source. Like "I want to be skinny to avoid diabetes (keeping my sight and lower limbs) and prolong my life." You won't stick with it if you do it for someone other than yourself.

I don't think carbs (like fruit) are bad, but I will tell you what works for me. I try to choose foods low on the glycemic index. I mostly stick to vegetables that grow above ground and a meat source with some fat (dark meat turkey, duck). One thing to watch is the added sugar in a lot of foods (like peanut butter) and limit fruit to one serving per meal.

and my foot is colder than the other one during this time.
I am not trying to scare you. That issue could be caused by a lot of things. Like the accident. Have you been checked for type 2 diabetes?

I meant the discipline for nutrition is where I have problems, mostly because I have zero idea of what is good or bad, past the basics like don't eat candy all day. Getting the habit for working out is something I am much more capable of doing and keeping up with.

I hear this a lot, but I don't think that is necessarily true. Seems I hear a lot of stories that go "I wanted to lose weight for my family/kids". The first couple of times I tried working out it was for my first girlfriend, so that way my tits didn't bounce more than hers, but the time before my accident I think I was doing it just to do it. Sure losing weight was the goal, but it didn't really feel like it did when doing it for someone else.

Personally I am one to believe that I am not worth the effort, so having someone else to do it for usually picks up the slack.

Only reason I stopped this past time was because of the accident.

I am very stupid when it comes to things like nutrition and dieting. I didn't even know carbs were in fruit and have no clue what "glycemic index" means.

I definitely don't have diabetes, although there was a curiosity about my liver at one point, but I never did the test for lack of transportation.

What I believe it was had to be similar to this mild carpal tunnel I have. I probably had some inflammation from being on my feet so much. I did pick up some new souls for my work shoes so that might help and the medication for the carpal tunnel seems to be helping my foot as well.
