i don't know who I'd feel worse for in that situation.

I'd go natural all the way achieving the natural genetic potential, rather then having a butler wiping my ass.
Although that's admirable, people are under the mistaken impression that steroids make gaining muscle easy, when in reality, steroids just give you the ability to work ten times harder than everyone else. You can work out for 2-3 hours and be okay ... and you recover a LOT faster to do it all over again. To take away from the work ethic that's required to achieve the type of mass the Olympians achieve is misplaced. They work harder than anyone ever possibly could. To say steroids would allow you to achieve that kind of mass easily is not accurate. Most people, even while "enhanced" ... could never achieve that mass. A godlike work ethic and a painstakingly difficult diet ... day in and day out for years ... is not something most people are prepared for ... much less have the time for. You literally have to dedicate the majority of your life to lifting to achieve what those big guys have. I still don't advocate doing them, I'm just defending the work ethic required to achieve the kind of things you see in the magazines. It's not an easy street. It's a completely different lifestyle ... and a difficult one.
Having a good health and waste it on some stupid drugs... while others might struggle for another gasp of air.
People can choose to do to their body whatever they want. It has no bearing on the suffering or struggles of others.
I have a buddy that is pretty big into the roids, it shows. I have asked him before because at one time I wondered what it would be like to use them and go ape shit crazy in the gym. The cost was much lower than I thought it would be.
To spend a lot you would be doing a lot but a regular standard cycle is actually very inexpensive. I am glad I opted not to try it. The long term cost does not have a dollar value.

Yea, I was talking to one of my clients and he mentioned he used to do them. He said that they're dirt cheap, which truly surprised me. I mean, if you consider how expensive it is to be healthy and natural, it would only make logical sense that getting similar results even faster would be crazy expensive.

There's nothing healthy about steroids, even with moderate use. To say it will help you get "healthy" faster is not quite right. It will help you achieve results faster, but it's at the expense of your health. Some people are okay with that tradeoff.

Everything is health related. While the last paragraph sounded a bit off the subject, it does bear significance to the subject.
Even now writing this post requires a minimum of effort and mind health to give this post a meaning rather than random thoughts, it is all health related. Mind and body coordination.
Not to fall in the extremes, but we both know that a non experienced user of steroids can f**k that up and it can lead to the unwanted.
I'm am a believer of the natural way, and I don't think one's natural potential should be let aside, for it is not to be neglected and can bring you more than decent gains.
This thread has been interesting. OP the most important thing is to define your goals, fine the routine that will accomplish them and get started.
Listen to the advice given and apply what works for you, we all have different goals. I got to be 328 lbs after being in a car accident that put me in a wheel chair for 3.5 years. Previous to that I was an U.S. Army soldier and very fit. I used the techniques I learned in the service to lean out once again and even though we had gyms available to us, good all running, push ups, squats and such is what keep us fit. Do remember that the biggest thing is nutrition as many have already mentioned. As the saying says abs are made in the kitchen.
Good luck on reaching your goal, hopefully you already got started on a serious routine.

oh, i know that. I wasn't suggesting that they were healthy. Only that a healthy lifestyle usually includes muscle mass increases, but you can get that way quicker.... for way cheaper. Assuming you can sell out on your longterm health.
We humans are wired for instant gratification.

That's an amazing story. I'm sorry about the accident, but I'm glad you were able to recover.
