              • Oh goodie, two people will be moving into the room next to mine that are my step-brother's friends, and to top it off I still don't have a job after two months. Seriously, how is 3 years of experience not good enough to get into a better job, hell just a job to begin with. What do I gotta do to get hired? Give the HR managers handjobs?

This is that bad luck I keep talking about. Good things don't last, and for some reason people don't believe me.

If you can't tell I'm freaking out hardcore. This year is literally ending the same way with someone moving in I'm going to hate, no pay, and me trying my best to bottle up my emotions until they fester into a mental disorder which I'll end up opening up in Spring.

                • And my cat got out yet again because I live with people so fucking stupid they can't close the front door. I'm going to have to get that cat chipped or something, or the screen door she broke through fixed, or take a wrench to someones knees.

                  • My cat breaks the screen on the windows to get out.

We've had a screen door that's been needing to be replaced for years, but the owner of the house refused to do it. It has the cord that weed whackers use to cut things as a door handle and the screen has been mostly knocked out forever, not to mention how dirty it is. Getting the cat back means I'm going to have to front the money to get a new one.

                      • Well that just goes to figure. I can get my youngest brother a job far faster than I can get myself one. Glad for him, it's his first real job, but I'm still going to be annoyed to hell and back that I can't even get a job after three months and 200+ applications sent out.

Three years experience with team lead and supervising experience can't even get me a simple fucking job cleaning floors, because that's apparently not good enough. Doesn't matter how many interviews you get when you get nothing from it. Forget shooting for the stars when even bottom of the barrel, entry level expectations is apparently too much to ask for.

Is it me, am I some unhirable piece of shit? Are the only places I can work are dead end, go nowhere kinds of jobs? Seriously, in what past life or past action did I do that brings me serial killer levels of bad Karma? What the fuck did I do?

At what point is life going to provide the evidence I need for people go "Oh shit! So that's what you were talking about this whole time. Now we get it, yeah that totally sucks."

                        FUCK!

TLDR - Another Dontrike brand rant about being frustrated that he doesn't have a job after 3 months and his savings is dwindling.

                        • Hard to believe Don with the resume we put together. What types of jobs are you applying for?

Are you following up any of your applications with phone calls? I got a job with a major food company (Kraft) once because I bombed the managers mailbox with requests for an interview. Was in the days before email so all I could do was keep on asking for an interview. Finally got one and the job. Be a go getter, sitting around waiting won't get you there. Just trying to help.

Mostly custodian/janitor, as I have 3 years experience in it and have supervising/team lead experience, and every other synonym for it (there's like a dozen different ways to list that kind of job, like custodian, custodial, janitor, janitorial, maintenance, utility, EVS, clean, cleaner, cleaning, and even more I can't remember). After that I am trying for anything I can do that would get me a living wage.

Not so much with calls. Personally I don't like the idea of having to do that, as it both seems desperate and if I was hired they would call me instead.

I really should be sending resumes out by mail, but I run into the same thing of "desperation" and hell if I know where to exactly send these things. I have two different resumes, one for cleaning and one for graphic design, but I wouldn't even know how to approach the graphic design one or where to send it.

I do appreciate it. This whole thing has been incredibly frustrating. I've only gotten 6 interviews, but two failed to fire. I can't believe this kind of experience doesn't land me even a decent amount of interviews.

                            • I'm with ZZ. Follow up calls let people know you want the job enough to keep after it. It also makes you more familiar to the people hiring. Even better than the calls would be to check in person, possible multiple times. It is common sense that if you don't have a job, you may be desperate for one. That could go in your favor. You are wanting to help them out with their workload, they may want to help you out as well.

                              Good luck!

As much as I hate calling I must agree that I will have to start doing that far more often, done it a few times and told the job either didn't exist or was taken long before I applied, which makes me wonder why they didn't take down the listing.

Going to many of thesse places will be difficult as I can't ask that many people to get to these places, as most don't have a bus route. I'll be able to get rides to the interview and the job until I can get my car, but I can't ask folks to keep taking me some place for a minimal increase in the chances I'll get it.

Explain this to me. How come applying isn't good enough? Why is calling needed? Doesn't that come across as annoying which then they would not want to hire you so they wouldn't have to hear from you again? At what point is too much calling or is there a thing as too much calling? I honestly do not understand why calling shows you want the job more than anyone else that applied, it seems like you're impatient or incredibly desperate.

This then makes me wonder why I can't seem to grasp these ideas that others have been getting for decades.
