  • Drinking Alone

    Howdy!
I was not raised around drinkers. I am very critical of people who drink over what I consider reasonable. Especially people who drink alone.

I don't understand why someone would drink 6+beers in one sitting while sitting in a chair alone.

When I find out I immediately ditch. This is a matter of preference. A matter of what I consider a red flag.

I had a thread once about a guy I dated who drank 6 beers in four hours. I ditched. Many of you felt that was normal for him. Although many of you said to me specifically that it was too much for a first date.

I am finding I can't shake my judgement or fear on it as I meet new people. The man I'm seeing now does not drink. If he does it's two beers in seven hours. That is great although I don't consider it a plus or "pro" column because to me that's expected (not to be an excess drinker)

If you think I'm being too judgmental let me know. I'm not referring to guys getting drunk. That is unacceptable on a regular or occasional basis. I'm referring to drinking to their supposed buzz limit.

Yes I drink once a weekend at friends houses maybe two beers in six hours or more. Sometimes three is we are shooting pool.

    Grrr

Edit: I drink socially. Never alone. I am a pretty outgoing social happy person. Never used drinking as a form of relaxation. On a date I can or will have up to 2 mixed drinks or 2 glasses of wine. When I am at a friends house I will drink beer until I dont want to anymore. As an adult I think I have got drunk by accident (lol) a couple times only. I dont drink to get drunk. Drinking while doing yard work, fixing your car, doing stuff is not what I am talking about. The single cocktail a night is not what I am talking about.

Same guy as before with no coordination?

Drinking alone is automatic "Alcoholism" territory, to me.

Some guys do just like the taste of beer. It's not the alccohol they're after but rather the flavor.

When i'm at college in my own apartment I usually drink 1 or 2 Gin and Tonics or whiskies a night, or at least every 2 nights, I don't see a problem with it, I like the taste.

SBE no my question on the drinkers is mainly new people I'm meeting in general or coming into the group. I just don't like to engage with them and they notice it. You know I can strict as hell. But I'm wondering if I'm being too critical because if they are in control of themselves and not rude who am I to question? Diss them?
Cusp. I find that odd lol

Pady if I found that out I would ditch. I find that odd. No one on my life was a drinker but at my age now they are. And again I am trying to be accepting and not two faced about. Maybe my limit is two beers and they think I'm drinking too much lol

Drinking alone = not so bad. Getting drunk alone could be a problem or lead to problems.

Important distinction, I agree with this statement.

Maybe fear? Since I don't know them I'm not willing to be around them to learn if they are in control of themselves all the time? If that's what it is that's not fair of me. I'm never alone I have a great group of friends. Hmmm

I don't see a problem with it, I like to unwind and relax with a drink after a long day of class. And I know that I don't have an alcohol problem as this summer i've barely had any drinks because I worked a night shift.

In terms of alcohol consumed, 2 beers is the same as 2 whiskies or 2 gin and tonics btw. Out of curiosity, would you have a problem with someone having 2-3 glasses of wine in an evening (including dinner)?

Of wine? ok, that is consistent at least (alcohol content is the same).

Loads of people drink wine in the evening and then criticize others for having beer, or whisky.

I personally think that this attitude is a bit extreme, but hey, different strokes for different folks

You know what and who you want in your life... stick with it, if it's working for you.

And then there's some guys like me who just get really fucking bored sometimes. Being drunk by yourself at home is a bit like dancing around your house naked with your weiner tucked between your legs like a lady singing some Aerosmith.

                              No fucks given!

Though it only takes me two beers on an empty stomach to get me to that point. Plus, it keeps me out of trouble.
